My Dear Friends,

In a stark departure for me, I am seriously considering ordering a Jim Wagner Reality-Based Blade, serrated version (I normally only purchase Spyderco knives). Does anyone have any hands-on experience with this knife, and if so what are your thoughts?

My thanks for your assistance!

The knife looks over-the-top in my opinion, especially with the blood groove. But, I guess my opinion doesn't count because I haven't handled the knife.

Well apart from the marketing that makes it look like a weapon of mass destruction, when it comes down to it, it's probably a decent knife.

-It's a lockback first of all, so that's a VAST improvement.
-The handle shape would probably allow for gunting techniques.
-It's got a low ride clip that should be quite discrete.
-It's 440C, which is great steel, and Boker does a great job with it.
-Serrations look quite nice, and the tanto tip will be one heck of a penetrator
-Thumb disk is a fairly secure means of opening(not my favorite, but it does work)
-It's steel lined for strength.

It's definitely not my style, but I think it deserves a chance.

Oh forgot to mention, it's a coated blade, so theres minimal chance of corrosion from sweat.

The blood groove needs to go though, that's just ridiculous.

Hello Hannibal,

had a change to handle it, so a couple of comments:

its quite heavy and the handle "glass" feels like it will eat pockets

it looks like an edged weapon more, not as a knife, you would have a serious hard time to explain that its just a pocket knife for apples

comfy grip in hammer grip, less comfy in saber grip, reverse saber too.

Interesting design, I think it may serve as good edged weapon issued for LEOs in active "street" duty, but I can imagine hundreds of more comfortable pocket knives for low profile MBC carry, just IMHO..
If I would wear BDU´s and Operator clothing I could imagine to carry it, in case I would need it just as edged weapon.

It looks like a good piece for the collection (I like the design too) but I have a feeling that an "aficionado" like you wont carry it too long ;)

My Friends,

I appreciate ALL of your esteemed input on this one. In fact, I am beginning to seriously reconsider this knife based on your opinions. It looks excellent for its intended purpose, but I normally carry something a bit more utilitarian and a bit less hostile-looking. :D

Many thanks!

Aloha Hannibal,

My dear brother...I would not be able to comment on this one as I *would* like to handle one first before giving my opinion on it. That being said...

This is TJT's cue to have Boker send me one for uh, eval purposes. :p

God bless and FWIW, I too, agree with knifebrother Jano regarding the amount of carry time it would see on your person. Hence my initial reaction::eek:    !!!

Take care:)

Quick someone tell me, if it's actually real enough to combat evil? Because I just know the world would be a safer place if I had one right now in my pocket. Better make that two, just in case there's more evil to handle...

It has one of the more unique tanto shape blades that I've seen. I usually despise recurve blades, but it looks like this one gives you enough straight plain edge to work with. It also seems to have a hawkbill thing going, and I know how you love those.;) As far as the blood grooves, it seems to me they're pretty insignificant compared to the wound the blade itself would cause. I think I'm with the other poster that said that it would be hard to explain this one off as a knife used mainly for utility.

Either way, buy it if you want, just don't forget to put up a review for us:D

Yup, my opinion is purely subjective, because like I said, I haven't handled it before.

A hands-on review would be appreciated.

I must admit, the more I look at it, the more I'm contemplating purchasing one. And I'm not even a fan of tanto points and combo edges, and just plain don't like chisel grinds..

It looks good, I just wouldnt carry it, thats all. But I like the design, blade shape, at least something interesting...

My experience withthis knife:
I could get on without the blood grooves.
The blade works well in everyday chores.
The blade scratches on the liners. the coating is already removed on some spots. This is not the case with all RBBs Check them before you buy.
