dave ellis posted a picture of this fikes friction folder a couple of weeks ago. in the meantime the knife crossed the ocean and is in my hands now. an unscheduled purchase, i was weak...

jimmy told me that he made several friction folders in the mid to late eigthies, some of them were kind of experiments to see how many times the blade can be opened and closed before the blade needed tightening (3'500, micarta scales...), or how sturdy the design was (O1 blade broke before the handle halves gave way...).

this knife has a rosewood handle (i think), a fileworked wooden spacer, and a deeply etched damascus blade with ropeworked spine. i suppose the knife spent the last 20 years in a safe, it's in perfect condition and the friction is just right. oal is about 9", blade is 4" long.

you're a fortunate man. That's a beauty.

That looks great in the pictures and must be even nicer to hold it in your hand. Congratulations.

Jimmy Fikes sure knows how to make a classy knife.
First folder I see by him. Simple but good looking, I like it.
The flower-like pivot is a very nice touch.

Super looking folder, love the damascus pattern.
Great score, Hans !
