So, my dad was a collector of the highest order... He started in the 70s, and got some great stuff through the 80's and early 90s. After that, he started ordering inexpensive stuff from catalogs and later, the internet. He passed away last Saturday, in his favorite chair, aged 71. It was relatively quick and all, so I think it is a deal most of us would take.

Anyway, I wanted to share some of his better stuff with those who would appreciate it. Anyway, I found this in a safe deposit box, with the receipt from June 29, 1986 for $125.

Is there anything you can tell about this one looking at it?

Sorry for your loss. :( Nice knife, though. Can't offer any info.

Oh, and welcome to the forums.:)

I believe it's Liles "back packer" model. Do a Big auction search there is one with micarta handles.

Sorry for your loss.

Very best regards

Robin

Sorry to hear of your dad's passing...
Sounds like you have your choice of quite a few mementos to carry with you!
Wish I could offer some info on your Lile, but all I've got it "Lookin' good!" ;)

Very sorry for your loss friend. Nice-looking knife.

That knife is a Jimmy Lile L1. It was sold as a light weight sporting & backpacking knife. Should have a blade of 1/8" thick D2 with a tapered tang. Those might be custom ordered scales, I want to say standard scales were Micarta. The old catalog I have does not mention any more than that. Since there is no dot above the name Lile on the tang stamp it means that it was made before Jimmy Lile passed away.

Use to have 2 Jimmy Lile knives, had to sell one to pay for other things. Very nice knives, and those made while he was still alive draw a premium price with collectors.

Sorry about the loss of your Father.

My condolences - Pat.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes and information. The tapered tang is a real eye-catching feature.

I am real sorry to hear of your Dads passing away, that's sad news - very sad.

I am glad for one thing that you have some of your Dads knives, and having a Jimmy Lile is something special!
