Can anyone help me with the value of this knife, it belongs to a friend of mine and he's wanting to know what it's worth. He told me he bought it in 86 or 87. Not sure if he's wanting to sell it or not. Thanks for your time. Dwayne

knife is marked Hand Made by James B. Lile, has some pitting on brass, sheath is marked #7.

Knife is a "Big 7". It was probably made early to mid 70's out of D2 steel which is what Jimmy commonly used. Script was done by his wife, Marilyn.

I would guess a value at $350-400. Thats about avg. on "E"

I guess you know he died back around '91 or '92. Met him once at a Guild show and even visited his shop after his death. He was one of the "good guys"

I had a friend that died a about 4 yrs ago that knew Jimmy and visited him several times through the years and had several of his knives with all the paperwork and articals & magazines that each were in. He had an awesome collection of Lile knives. I believe his wife sold all of them. I appreciate reply. Dwayne

Michael,

In total agreement with you. I was thinking up to $450.00, but did not want to step out of the woodwork and have someone jump all over me, for being a) too low or b) too high.;)

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Thanks guys for giving me a price to give him. I'm not sure if he's wanting to sell it or not. If he decides to I'll post it. Dwayne

i Don't know the value of the knife, But I can tell you that Jimmy was an old and dear friend. He taught me a lot. Jimmy gave me a lot of valuable advice over the years. If Not for the Old School guys. Jimmy, George Herron, Jim Merritt, and Bob Loveless, I wouldn't be making knives today. Sorry I couldn't be of help, but I thank you for posting the pic. Any pic of a knife by anyone of these guys brightens my day. Mike
