Who has Jimmy Lile Sly II with hidden serial # 1~100 ? Those were made by Mr.Lile himself around 1983. The # is hand engraved by Jimmy, and you can see it at the very bottom in side of the grip, #s are covered with some knid of epoxy glue. Not many people knows about this. If there are any Sly II owner here, you better check.

I have never heard of this type of numbering, nor have I ever read anything about it. Could you tell me more about it? Where did you acquire the information from? Where does the actual number appear-inside the hollow handle? If so, wouldn't it be very difficult to see unless the knife was diassembled, thus greatly reducing its value? PM me if you would like.

Hi 1 GTA, you do not have to destroy the knife to see it. All you have to do is screw off the but cap, get a small flashlight and observe the bottom.
I have just sent you an e-mail with pics, so please have a look.

This is also a very simple way to create a rumor that forges the way for guys to produce counterfeits. Nice try. I had a contact very close to Mrs. Lile repeat this story, and word has come back that it's "hogwash".

If you own a knife like this, it's very likely that it was sold to you with this fishing story attached.

Yep, there are a lot of people on ebay who know how to write the description so as to either decieve or to lead someone to believe that an item something that it is not or they were mislead or lied to by another party.
In most cases when you see an item that you know for a fact has misinformation in it, they will say that you are a liar and call you all sort of bad names.

I have one of these knives and if you unscrew the end of the handle and look down the shaft with a light you can see the #49 on the bottom, but it is also on the blade tward the handle "49 of 100" it also has the Vietnam logo on it that reads "Republic of Vietnam Service" next to that is Lile. Are these knifes as valuble as they say??????????

I have one and it has engraved the unit designation and the individual battles that it survived in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. In fact, it states the time of day and what kind of mood Jimmy was in while he was making the knife.

It is a lot of good information on the inside of that handle. Every single person's name that has held or ever used the knife, also!:jerkit::jerkit::jerkit:

You are describing the Vietnam Commemrative rather than the SlyII. The Vietnam Commemrative has a brass guard and brass screw on handle cap like the 6.5" Combat. They also had a 7" bead blasted or polished blade etched like you described and serially numbered. Seems like several of the first Rambo movie knives were serially numbered but I don't know anything about any secret number system in the handle. I saw a Vietnam Commemrative sell on Nordic Knives maybe 5-6 years ago, but we'll have to wait to see how your auction turns out to determine market value today.

:thumbdn: This is not true. I own #198 and it is complete with the sharpening steel and original black Johnson sheath. It is authenticated by letter from Lile's shop in 2002 after I shipped the package to them for that purpose. It has veen dry vacuum sealed for 5 years and I have the letter of authentication and the UPS box with label from "Jacque Weir, Lile Handmade Knives Inc, 2721 S. Arkansas Ave, Russellville, AR" from them to me. I also have a medical quality gastroscopic series of photos of the interior of this knife's handle. The #s were hand-engraved INSIDE the handle where the blade was swaged into the handle. The lock-up was then sealed with an amber-clear epoxy type material.

If you own a LILE Sly I,, Mission knife, or Vietnam vet with serial #,
each has the same engraved # inside, at the very bottom of the grip.

Sly II early model has the hidden # as well.

I worked with Jimmy for years and have to say one should not get to excited over this because it is just not real, not real, Need that in larger letters?

You know, as a knifemaker I number stuff all the time before heat treat etc. I would not be suprised if that is what the numbers are. Just a thought.
