Jimping - and appreciation

I added some jimping to my new Kailash Bowie today. This little bit of file-work took me 1 hour and 15 minutes, and I am still not done. I need to square up the edges now.

Makes me truly appreciate the time that people like WValtakis WValtakis and other bladesmiths and tinkerers put in on jobs waaaaaay more elaborate than some simple jimping.

Guys like Chip make it look easy, but the hours of work that goes into some modifications is insane! Shout-out to ya'all.

Time is irrelevant when the end result is perfect. That is beautiful jimping. Well done sir.

There are some tricks that will speed the process along. I use a special file that makes 5 rows at a time. It takes about ten minutes. But it’s a much finer pattern than yours is

Thank you.

And I have (or used to have) one of those files.....I looked all over the house/garage/shed for it and it was no where to be found. I definitely agree - the right tool makes most things exponentially easier and faster.

Nice jumping. And it looks like the edge you set on that spine is ready to strike a ferro rod and then some. :)

And another 45 minutes to clean up the edges, for a grand total of 2 hours labor.

Again, don't underestimate the skill and the time invested by some of the artists on this forum. Much love. 😍

The jimping looks great! If it takes that long on a differentially hardened blade imagine how long it takes on something through hardened- I'm sure on some steels it can be a bear of a task.
Take care,
Andrew and the team at Kailash
