I love opening beer with my 11 but I think I need more grip on the handle.

OK seriously though, I am going to attempt to add jimping to my 11. Any advice? All I have is a dremel, files and a vice. What cutting wheel should I use? How deep should I cut? Anything else?

measure the distance between, make a mark, measure again. Use the cut off wheel to score it and use the file to actually shape each notch out using the score as a guide. measure measure measure....

Like Clich said. Use the file for the actual work, the dremel to mark it. If I had a vice, I would make sure to get the knife in there level, with the top of the vice at where I wanted the cuts for the jimping to end. When you use the dremel, get a very firm grip on it, and go gently and slowly. If the dremel catches in the steel it will kick out and make a sloppy mess of it. Take your time, go gentle, and go slow. Never go more than a millimeter deep with the dremel, or it will catch, and it will kick out on you. The edges are where the dremel disk likes to catch, so be aware of which way it is spinning and be prepared for that to happen. Good luck, and post up pics of the results!

Exactly. Just go deep enough to get good grip, and make sure to measure. You can always take off more steel, but you can't put any back.

You might try clich's method of dremeling, then follow up with a triangular file, then a square file to widen the jimps, if you want them wide. You could also use a half'round if you want to simulate the jimp style on BK-7,9,10. I would also do something to be really, really sure that the jimp lines were truly perpendicular to the spine. mini-square? i dunno. but then finish with fine sandpaper and oil/polish. all that hand sweat is sure to rust quickly.

I am almost done with this mod and will of course post pictures! But, where is a good place on the knife for striking fire steel? I liked the choil idea from the other thread but I would like to use the top of the knife. How much strength do you think I would be taking away by making a half circle on the top of the knife near the jimping?

If thats hard to understand I will post pics with my idea when I am home form work.

Checkering file. Cuts perfectly uniform grooves to a uniform depth. Can't lose.

Nice! Ill have to see if I have one on those and ill do that in front on the jimping

Almost done. I have to straighten a few of them out but so far not bad. I made the first one deeper for firesteel and it throws a lot of sparks! Still want to do the little ones in front of these too.

I also need to sand the blade more to get rid of scratches.
