Jimping...it's important

So I was doing some work & needed my blade "johnny on the spot". My hands were moist due to them holding a glass of my favorite whiskey. I pulled my knife, went to deploy my flipper &...slip...nothing. Oh, I was disappointed. This particular flipper doesn't have any jimping on the tab. Looks like I'll be in the shop adding it.

Is jimping important? It was then & now will be from here on.

Drink another couple of more glasses and get back to us on the morrow:D

It’s very important...except when it’s not.

jimiping is like sharpening choils. Best done by the final owner. Not everyone likes them and the factories don’t always get them right. On my work knife I add it to the lock button and the opposite side of the bolster. To help get it out of the sheath while wearing oily gloves.

I don't find it necessary but do have knives I feel could use it.

Jimping is one of those things where I'd rather add it myself if I want it because it's rarely don't right or in the right place for me.

I'm hoping someone will chime in with a jimped Spyder or Byrd hole. That would make my day !

Needs more jimping ! (The hole is not jimped, such a lack of design understanding. I don't honestly get it... Sad !). And you could / should / must jimp the clip spine. That would be one serious knife !

I like some jimping on all of my larger knives, but the Manix(s) has excessive jimping IMO.

I guess jimping is important if you drink on the job. I am having a tot of Booker’s barrel strength (126 proof). After a belt of that I shouldn’t be handling knives at all.

Nice. Last night was Old Forester 1920 and Elijah Craig Barrel proof for me.

No flippers, but I did play with my Inkosi most of the time. :D

I will stay amazed by the stupidity of this one. This knife is just AAAAAArgh !

Must admit I've never missed it on my knives that don't have jimping. (which is most of them.)

;) I value jimping , but at some point no amount will compensate for the booze . o_O

The presence or absence of jimping doesn't usually figure into my knife purchases, although I think that there are certain knives that shouldn't have it. If it is there, I don't want it to be too aggressive, and I'm not convinced that it does any good if it's located near the bottom inside of the handle, where your pinky rests.

If jimping is the difference between knife worky, and knife no worky, then I start to question basic design and ergonomics regarding that knife, and I would need to have a serious sit and think about whether or not it needs to move on to a new home.
