Jimping size and technique?

I want to (I should say need to) put some jimping on my Al Mar Sere 2020.

Front of the flipper. Which measures roughly 3mm wide x 6mm long - across the face of the flipper.

And along the top edge of the liner lock. Which needs to be about 10mm wide.

Should I just cut them in every other mm? That would give me 3 on the flipper and 5 on the liner lock.

Besides eyeballing it. I feel confident with a file. But any advice for rounding the edges between each jimp (is that what a single jimping is called?)? Are there any techniques or tools for rounding the edges?

I considered buying a checkering file. But both surfaces are curved.

Lastly, does anyone make aftermarket pocket clips like that? If so, what it is called? Or how would I find one?

Have you tried a practice run on a cheaper knife so as to not to ruin the target knife? Sharing my two cents but trying to work a heat treated knife is way harder than any pot metal, you need the appropriate files (I think diamond of sorts?) That or a dremel.

Yes. I have some old knives I can practice on. I've built rifles. So not a stranger to metal work.

Was gonna start with the Dremel. And round and smooth with files and paper. Was gonna make the jimping 1mm apart and 1mm deep? As the space is fairly limited. Just the flipper and the fairly narrow access to the liner lock.

What are my options for upgrading the washers beyond Teflon or nylon? Can I fit the washers with ballbearings? Or no? Not the smoothest flipper. Was hoping to make that movement a bit slicker. Will grease etc. And polish the washers if nothing else. I sanded them smooth once. Which helped a bit. But not much.

What else can I do?

I assume the spring is not modifiable. The blade and liners are very polished. Wish I could swap out the pocket clip. But it seems to be a one off. Screws into the end of the knife. Instead of side.

Besides contacting the manufacturer, any idea how to ascertain the screw size? Would like to upgrade with higher quality stainless.

You can contact the manufacturer, but I doubt they will tell. If they don’t, you need a thread pitch gauge and a fasteners gauge to determine screw size and thread pitch.

I'm talking about adding jimping to the flipper and liner lock(?).

I'm not removing any screws or changing threads. I'm cutting jimping into the flipper and liner lock. Just trying to decide how wide apart and how deep.

You also asked how to best ascertain the screw size because you wanted to upgrade to higher quality stainless. He told you to contact the manufacturer, or measure the screws yourself.

On jimping, I think using a dremel at all is asking for disaster. Mark your lines with a fine tipped sharpie and follow them the best you can with the point of a triangular diamond file.
