This is a review for a set of kitchen knives I have just had the pleasure of testing for the last eleven days.

They were sent to me on a pass-around sign-up basis.

The handles are black micarta, and are shaped to fit your hand well! You can cut all day and they never seem to be tiring to your hands! They also handle well when wet, which is a problem with some knives!
John, at JK Handmade Knives is the person that made them. It was a set of two, a medium sized cutting knife and a paring knife. (I think there might be an addition of a third knife now, which is more of a chopping knife I think.)

I cut everything that I could think of in my kitchen food wise, and even a few things that weren't food! (Oh, Oh, that was the counter top! Ha! Ha!)

I love the way these knives cut. They cut through ribs, tendons and meat like they are butter! The big white tendons at the end of a rack of ribs, didn't slow these babies down a bit, no problem at all!

I cut up a whole round steak to stew for a dish that I make. I trimmed all the fat and grizzle out of it, and then cut it up into little even pieces. The large knife did the job better than any knife I have ever had in my kitchen.

I have two block knife sets in my kitchen, one is a cheap set that is a better set than the expensive one that I have but, these two JK knives put all of them to shame.

The only thing that I found hard to do with these two knives was slicing an onion straight! You really have to work at this chore. They tend to start a cut and then slice crooked on an onion but, that could be that I just haven’t had enough practice using them. I also had to work a little bit harder to slice a stalk of celery long ways, straight.

It takes a little bit of skill I guess!

I have never had a greater knife for cutting tomatoes, watermelon or any other fruits or vegetables though, and as I said earlier, they just slice meat up!

They really did every chore with ease.
They clean and sharpen very easily also, and hold an edge for a good long time. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the time to get out camping with them or use them outside. There has been to much going on around here lately, so all I have had time for was cooking in the kitchen. I was really impressed with this set though, and would like to buy a set for myself but, at the moment my money situation is stressed to say the least. Thanks again to John at JK Handmade Knives for letting me be, a part of the test crew for these beauties! I love this mans knives, whatever he makes. Everyone I have seen so far, I have wanted to buy. I hope that everyone will check out what John has to offer at his website at: http://www.jkhandmadeknives.com and check him out on his Blade Forums site also. I think he makes some really fine knives that are usable in the field, woods or at home! If you find something that you are interested in, contact him, and be sure to tell him that FrontierTom sent you. I wish John good luck with his future knifemaking. Thanks for your time!
