So..I was out having a smoke the other day at work and saw a little 'ol morel poking it's head up out of the dirt.
I thought what the heck, a Morel?..here?
Then I looked around the other side of the stumps & found the big'uns.
I'd been going out for a smoke back here behind the shop for pert near 8 years now & never saw a morel.
I've seen rats, snakes, rabbits, various little birds, hawks, eagles and other fungi, but never a wild morel.
It was nice back there because we had the shade from the big 'ol cottonwoods, with blackberry vines all up the fence to block the view of the highway & the breeze would blow down the side of the building so it was a cool place to take the afternoon break in the summer.
Anyways, the owners of the building decided to have the trees removed last year
and I can only surmise that the morel spores came from the tree removal people & their equipment when they chopped down the trees.
I've seen pics of some big Morel's on the net,but never seen any this big over where I camp & usually harvest them so I was really surprised to see these big guys right in my back yard.(so to speak)
After taking the pics and thinking about where they are growing I decided not to eat any of these guys.
We're just a mile or so from the Duwamish River which is a Supper Fund Site because it's so damned polluted & we're just down the road from the local Transfer Station(The Dump) so I ain't taking no chances of getting an Industrial Disease!
:barf:
