I've have a few Jk knives and I keep finding more to crave. Looking back through the JK Forum I discovered that John had made a number of different folding knives. I emailed him and as usual he got back to me almost as soon as I'd sent the email. He told me he enjoyed making friction folders a would be happy to make another one.

One of the best thngs about a jk, other then the quality and service, is that they are really custom knives. I picked my blade shape from another of johns knives, and I'm fairly sure you can also modify a knife John already makes or come up with one of your own even for a friction folder, I know he does that with his fixed blades.

In JK's own words" These are available in any blade length up to 4". A titanium handle version will also be available, in any blade length up to 5"."

I chose the above specs, borrowing the blade shape from a jk knife reviwed here by Tahts-a-dats-ago.

This pocket clip is fantastic. There's no other way of saying it. It's comfortable, good looking and made me wonder why all folders don't have longer clips. It's made out of titanium and as a $5 option I couldn't resists. It does stick out the pocket a fair ways but I kind of like that to.

Having never had a custom folder, or a friction folder, I was worried I wouldn't be able to use it. But after using it it's really no different then switching from a liner lock to an axis or visa versa. It actually reminds me of the boker exskelibur ii in opening and closing. As for using a custom folder, like all my jks, that fear faded away. JK builds very good looking knives, true, but they are built to work.

I'm not the best reviewer, and I'm not the most sophisticated knife user. I'm simple, very hard on tools and generally my skill set is limited to the things I've needed to learn in order to get things done. So when it comes to design and technicals like steel I can't say much. I can say that you the chance to design a folder yourself seems like a unique opportunity. If you don't like mine, get a different blade shape and handle material, or take a another design thats already well tested.

I can also point you to a passaround going soon where 11 members of BF, including myself, are going to set out to destroy a JK knife made form the same 01 steel, I know its going to impress because I have other JK's, but if your on the fence about o1 steel you might want to check that passsaround out.

As Tahts pointed out in his review of the fixed blade, this shape lends it'self to previous cutting while providing a nice long edge for slicing. As a folder I don't think I'm going o use this for wood much, though I think you could, but has made a great EDC folder because of it's versatility while looking more like a gentlemen's folder.

Holding the knife normally I don't feel any movement in the blade, if you take your hand off the locking area of course you can cause the balde to move but you can tighten the pivot screw well enough that it won't fall on your fingers even then. I have to say that after a while of using it, fairly hard, I have found the screw can loosen up slightly, but I've not found any side to side moment whatsoever.

I have my pivot screw lose enough it opens and closes like a straight razor right now because I like it that way, but I might tighten it up later. FYI I've found that a screwdriver on a standard SAK can operate the pivot screw, for just that purpose.

I'm not sure what else to say, it feels and acts strong, yet the micarta handles keep it feeing very light . The edges are smooth and the knife feels very comfortable in the hand especially when getting a good grip to cut into something. It does take up a good amount of space in the pocket but not enough I can't have my wallet in there as well, and get it out easily.

Honestly if you'd like or want a custom folder and don't have one of these on the list, I don't know why.

FYI. The sheath you can see on the left of picture 10 is my JK Potawatomi plus, you can never have too many JKs on you.

Hi KYe -

Nice review! Thanks for the pictures.

thanks all, wanted to add that the "locking stuck" you use to open it comes down far enough you'd have to be using the knife in a very strange way for t to ever come down on your fingers, almost pinching the butt with your thumb and forefinger, course if you were doing that your fingers wouldn't be there to get cut when the blade came down.
