i have been a proud supporter of JK Knives for a while. but, i have a few that i like more than others. i plan to take my 3 favorites camping this weekend and have a good, old-fashioned, knife-off.

this, my friends, is what we call a tease.

the contenders!

from left-to-right: the JK Rule #9; the JK {no name} (Custom); the JK Twig Mangler.

i haven't done a review in a long time, so thought it might be fun to do one. really, it gives me an excuse to play with all three this weekend.

i don't have a lot of extra income to throw at knives, so typically what i do after i've gathered a few is decide which i like best. that's what's going on here... an epic, survival-of-the-fittest battle royale!

i plan to compare and contrast the 3 of them in typical camp chores (ie. what i use my knives for), and will probably throw a try stick in for good measure.

after looking at 'em, if there's any particular "test" you'd like to see, please let me know.

can you feel the excitement!!?

i know i'm laying it on thick. just having a little fun. thanks all.

Looking forward to this.
You need a Friction Folder to add to the quiver. I would like to see how it stacks up, side by side.

I would like to see you try your hand at making a bow drill and fire board set with each one of these.
If you don't know how to do so, it would be a great chance to learn something new, while seeing which knife lends to making new and unfamiliar tasks more manageable.

Bonus points for actually building a fire.

thanks for the idea bill. and i have never tried this. will need to see how much time i have, but it sure would be fun to try.

I like the concept of comparing the knives in a true field trial. Being familiar with John's heat treat I'm confident each one will perform well and the deciding factor will be handle/blade shape they suits your needs best. The Twigmangler is a very interesting design and I'm anxious to see your review of it.

I bet the rule 9 will be a good one, would like to see it making snare triggers or kitchen use.
it will get plenty of food prep work. i probably won't make any actual snares, but i should get a good feel for its carving capabilities while doing a try stick with it.

thanks guys

No name just doesn't seem fair. :( You should give it a name; I recommend Guido (looks big and tough).

thanks. and i agree. i mean, not with Guido, but that it needs a name.:D i'm sure a name will come to me over the weekend, as i use it.

Go 'Mangler!

Ummmm, that setup, particularly the brickwork, looks more like a backyard then an outdoor (wilderness) campsite. :( Are you cheating? It does look VERY comfortable though. Maybe I'm jealous.

Yep, jealous . It sure isn't reminiscent of anything around here (Vegas).

the state parks here do a good job with the fire setup. and they're cheap. i'll try to take plenty of pics for ya. . thanks for checking in.

Enjoy the weekend brother!!
Very interested in your results.......and I'm jealous also....VERY!! Stuck working this weekend!
Ugh

ok guys, i owe you an update. i didn't get to really do what i wanted to do. i
do have some pics that i'll add when i'm at a computer. but we got a lot of rain sunday. and since we were only an hour from home (and soft), we packed up.

we are camping again wknd of sept 15. but, i'll check back in before that.

in short, the showdown has been postponed.

RAIN! You quit? Wuss! A few feet of snow, maybe, but RAIN. You must have had young and/or delicate family with you. You could NOT have been alone..."say it ain't so Joe (TVPT)" :(
