Michigan Trail Knife

8 inches OAL
3.75 inch blade
1/8 inch 01 steel
Black canvas micarta
Solid stainless pins

As you can tell from the pictures, I’ve used this knife quite a bit since I first received it (in November). The blade could use a cleaning – beyond wiping it on my pant leg – and I’ve managed to procure a few beauty marks that may, or may not, buff out if I were so inclined.

I like the “beauty marks” though. I think they help give the knife a personality. Besides – as much as I enjoy using this knife, I’d just get new ones if I bothered to buff out the old ones.

I can’t tell you how the knife does in the kitchen since I haven’t used it – not even once – to prep food of any sort.

What I can tell you is that this knife is absolutely wonderful outdoors.

My neighbor’s son – James – has developed quite an interest in ‘boy scout’ type outdoors stuff and we’ve both used this knife in a variety of tasks related to building a fire out of material gathered in the woods.

We’ve drilled with it. We’ve shaved wood with it. We’ve carved with it. We’ve pried apart pitch-wood with it. We’ve scraped the inside of bark with it. We’ve split wood with it. We’ve used it to start fires. We’ve even used it to cut sticker vines (cuz I hate the darn things).

Oh – I lied.

We did use it for a food purpose. We carved sticks to roast hotdogs with.

And each night, after I’m done using it, I’ve stropped it for a few minutes.

It still shaves hairs from my arm.

And it works magnificently.

James loves it.

So do I.

Nice review, and photos. I would like to add that this is one of several knives that were designed by BF member jds1.
