I picked some Rabbit Tobacco today for the cold season and thought it would make a good background for a knife photo. Shown with my JK PA in Osage. Great knife! It often rides in my back pocket.

What is rabbit tobacco, and what is it used for?

You can do an internet search on it's medicinal uses but in short is supposed to be good for congestion and colds and other stuff as well. You can smoke it or make a tincture or tea from it. I have known about it since I was a kid but never knew about any medicinal uses of it. You use to hear of some kids smoking it like tobacco but I don't think I ever did. I think I may have tried chewing it when I was a kid and my wife remembers chewing it when she was little. It's supposed to be ready to use in the fall when the leaves turn brown on one side and silvery white on the other like the photo. Because of it's silver looking leaves, it's easy to spot in the fall. It has a sweet peppery smell to it. Here is some info on it http://thesouthernherbalist.com/articles/rabbit_tobacco.html

I have been trying to learn about different plants in my area that can be eaten or used for medicinal purpose and this is one of them. You would be surprised at what may be growing in your front yard. Some plants like this, I have seen since I was a kid but never new it had any use. I think the good Lord put all kinds of things on this earth for people to use but a lot of it has been forgotten.
