I really like the proportions of John's original Roach Belly pattern and wanted a similar knife of an EDC size. I played around with different dimensions and settled on an 82% version of the original pattern. This is the Roach Belly Lite.

As you can see, the blade and handle are of almost equal dimensions at 3 3/4". The original was of 1/8" O1, but I chose 3/32" for this downsized version. The balance point is just behind the first pin. The handle has a modest taper from butt to blade and sits well in the hand. Aren't those red liners nice? :)

John paired up the knife with a trim leather pocket sheath which carries well in my back jeans pocket. Only about an inch protrudes from the top of my pocket. Just right.

As usual, this one came out just as expected. My template came to life and found it's way into my back pocket. :) Anybody who is a fan of this traditional pattern will love this knife. Nice work John!

That is an awesome version of the Roach Belly! I know you will be putting it to use frequently. Congrats on a beautiful blade and, as always, John kicked butt on the craftsmanship..

Yes, photos show up now. Nice looking knife, and looks like the original has been used a couple times.

That looks great. The pic of the handles really shows off how perfectly John is making them.
Very nice!

Used this knife for salad duty last night. It is a GREAT slicer.

Nice roach belly ! I still like the rustic look of the original but that is some good work.

HI Jeff -

That came out beautifully.

What do you plan to do with that knife primarily? Kitchen work? It looks like it would be a great food-prep blade with all of that belly and lots of blade below the handle.

The red liners have become part of all of my orders from John, I just like the extra splash of color.

Hi Andy,

This knife does VERY well in the kitchen, but it's a shame to leave it at home all the time. I'm going to back pocket this one for a while and try it as an all-arounder.
