She tried to sue an Indian town that built a little Hogwarts' castle for some festival they had. "Copyright infringement" Can you believe that BS ?
She stole every single idea she had from Monty Python, D&D and Oliver Twist.
How does this woman sleep at night? Little Miss "loves kids." Well, not Indian kids, I guess.
I wonder what Mother Teresa would say.

Oh yes, I almost forgot. The castle in the movie is a real place, an old monastery in England, I think. Does she think she owns that place?

You know, it's been speculated that JK actually stole the name for Harry Potter from the 1986 fantasy/horror cult classic "Troll". In the movie, a boy named Harry Potter Jr. uses magic to combat dark forces in his apartment building. She says it's coincidence, but how many Harry Potters do you know?

Personally, I've never had anything against JK. She has gotten kids to enjoy reading multi-hundred page books. Good for her:thumbup:. She's finished her series, there is a successful line of motion pictures, and all sorts of merchandise tie-ins that are making her millions. For someone that was quite literally out on the streets at one point to cry foul on copyright infringements is sickening. She's worth something like a billion dollars. How much could it be hurting her pockets?

i bet its all lawyers-

she probably doesnt have time to know all thats going on-

just another reason to hate lawyers as far as im concerned

How does she sleep at night??

On a bed filled with ONE BILLION DOLLARS

Unbelievably, she is the most successful (in $$$ terms) author in history, and she has only written those Harry Potter books. Steven King has written like a hundred bajillion books.

I will say one thing for her. My son refuses to read, but he has read every one of those stupid books from cover to cover at least twice.

Its not BS. Its her intellectual property. If she does not enforce the "small" infringements, then big time infringers may argue that she has waived enforcement of the intellectual property rights. I am often full of BS myself , but not this time. Its the same reason that you see the US Olympic Committee enforcing against the use of the word "Olympics" from small taters like churches and the like.

So, by enforcing her rights as against the small cheeses, she prevents big cheese (like, lets say a big toy company or tv network) from stealing what she has created.

Exactly right. Plus she's has a LOT of trouble with Asian copies, early releases, and copyright infringement. I don't blame her one bit.

She's done a LOT to get kids to read. And on top of that the books are AWESOME!!!!! I've read them all, some more than once, and loved the experience.

Danny, if you are wanting to be an engineer, wait till you see how companies deal with IPR's. Any thought you have during your tenure there belongs to them. Just wait and see what I mean.

You'd think Rowling or her kennel full of lawyers could cut them some slack, its not like they are using to to turn a profit or anything. That being said it isn't a small town or a small float. Metro Kolkata has almost 15million people and the float cost 30,000. Still like they said in the article White Star isn't sueing them for modeling the Titanic.

I hope some association of clay turners sue Rowling for the use of the term Potter.

You make this sound so discouraging, it's good that he's reading, regardless of what book it is.

Don't forget the similarities to this movie:

You're right. I shouldn't have said stupid books. I'm happy he's reading. When I was a kid I just devoured everything to read. Maybe if there were more video games out there when I was a kid I wouldn't have read so much either.

Deja Vu all over again;) I'm happy that I wasn't the only one that had heard that little tidbit. On a side note, Troll was one of my all time favorite movies as a kid....stay far away from Troll 2 (although it is awesomely bad), and even farther from Troll 3 (which is just incredibly awful)

Ain't read any Harry Potter myself, and I don't intend to start, though childhood literacy is a good (albeit somewhat declining) phenomenon. Did Rowling steal half her ideas? Not sure, but she sure did get them marketed more effectively!

But you crack down on things like this festival in India, and you may as well crack down on fan conventions and the like too. Imagine if Gene Roddenberry's estate sued every geek that ever wore pointed ears!

They are happy when that happens, because they license out the Star Trek "intellectual property" to pointy ear manufacturers and take a cut off of each sale!
