JK Tactical Hiker
Went on a trip to Wrightwood for some hiking, camping, and knife play.
One of the JK Knives I’ve had the pleasure of using and reviewing for SWAT Magaine was the Tactical Hiker. This is a light 4-inch blade with black micarta scales. I’ve had this knife for a couple of years now and it has been all the way down to Peru cutting crocodile tail and doing some food prep as well as woodcraft. I recently took this knife back on the trail to use in camp. Here are a few pictures from the camp!

Thumb serrations worked well for striking a Boy Scout Fire Steel.

Good to see you here Reuben! That Hiker is the very first one made, it`s got a few miles on it. Maybe I should do a limited run of that model? In case anyone is wondering, bearthedog (Reuben Bolieu) is the guy who wrote the article for S.W.A.T. Magazine about my knives.

Great pics! What's the difference between the standard old model Hiker and the Tactical Hiker?

Here is another photo by Reuben Bolieu that shows the four knives featured in the S.W.A.T. article. All four of these have been discontinued, does anybody think I should bring them back?

Yes. The top one is pretty close to perfect!

Not a thing, Reuben just liked the name Tactical Hiker.

It just fit in with the others that were being covered at the time for the magazine. I'm pretty sure John will make it the way you want.

I forgot to mention, this knife is light and packed full of power to split wood and make fuzzies, what more could you want in a hiking/backpacking/camp knife?

I have an early model with the K on the lower side of the blade, looks almost exactly like the one in your pics with a slightly different tip. That is why I asked about the difference. It is one of my favorite woodsbumming blades.

Post it man! I would like to see some of the variations on this design. This is one of the "Lower K" classics. I do remember seeing some with a more pronounced clip point and some with an exposed butt(ocks)!:D

they all look good to me!

that's looks like the full size scout on top. not sure what the other models are.

i'm in favor of leaving any models in the lineup and produce them as ordered. since it's not like a car company where stuff has to be produced before it's ordered, it seems like eliminating stuff from the lineup may exclude some potential customers who don't see what they want.

Here's a pic of two "lower Ks", the bottom is one of my favorite companions on most hikes.

You could always call those "Lower K`s" second generation models. (makes them sound more valuable :D)

When I ordered my first knife from you, I was torn between the scout, and the long clip model.
So, I aded them together, divided by two, and ordered the clip scout.

The long clip would look great with a torched oak handle, don't ya think?

The tactical hiker ain't too shabby, either.

I like this shot. Obviously, this knivve has been around the woods a bit.

This is true. It has seen some nasty jungle too in Peru cutting aligator tail, fruit, getting left in the mud. You should really see it up close, the handle is scratched and scuffed pretty bad. One thing that has always amazed me is how good the blade looks for being 0-1 and exposed to so much. I heard from some other makers how 0-1 will rust if you look at it wrong. They haven't really tested their stuff.

If I get around to it I will post my Nessmuk after it has been in kitchen use for the past 2 years. It is pretty nasty, but used and still very functional.
