I have decided to upgrade my gelbu and my ak bowie with larger, more functional by-knives.
The originals are just not big enough for my hands and are somewhat dangerous to me.
I was thinking I could be happy with some kardas like the JKM version.
Can anyone tell me how big the handle is on a jkm ?
is it safe to cut with for a big person ?
Do the JKMs ever appear in the blem box ?
thanks

You'll have to be fast on the mouse button to get a blem JKM, they are very popular. :)
Email Uncle Bill, you never know what he has in the shed. They may have some spare kardas from the big khukuris that will suit your purposes.

consider some wari bashi, or other traditional tools as well, perhaps an awl or bo shuriken that can double as steel chopstix?

Hey, Danny;

My friend Danny from Texas is a real big guy too. I mean big. How many big Dannies you all got in Texas?

Danny, a JKM-1 makes a great companion knife to a khukuri, and a handy little belt knife all by itself. I'm not a small person (6'2", 230 lbs.) either, and getting used to the JKM-1's somewhat stubby handle (by western standards) took a little adjustment, but I'm now quite comfortable with the little boogers. A three finger grip works very well, and should you need to "choke up", the extended choil/ricasso area of the knife's blade design accomodates this nicely.

I'm not just whistling in the dark recommending the JKM-1 either. I carried/used one by Sanu as an EDC "chore" knife over in Afghanistan, and a different one by young Shanker when I went back over for "Iraqi Freedom". Those knives cut MRE wrappers, plastic bands, cardboard, duct tape, 550 cord, etc., etc., 'cause they were ever present and ever handy on my trouser belt (my khuk lived on my load bearing vest).

A JKM-1 blem is a rare and coveted thing, but I'm here to tell you, considering the amount of work you'll get out of one, a full priced JKM-1 will give you your money's worth and then some.

Wood handled JKM-1's, shame on you Uncle, you never told me about them. E-mail incoming!

Has anyone out there skinned a deer or other medium sized game animal with a jkm ?
How is it as a skinner ?

How about the Kumar Karda, that seems more my size for skinning and small knife stuff. Can I get the kumar karda with a plain wood or bone handle ? (no engraving)

byt he way, there are 402 Danny's in Texas and yes, we are all large.

Danny?

Seems to me that Raghorn used a JKM for deer one season. See if he pops up, if not, I'll search for the thread.

My pal Danny from Texas weighs about 400 pounds, is somewhere around 6'3". He works out with weights, eats well, but still can't lose the 90 he needs to. He's considering other options.

Anyway, these Dannies from Texas must come from good stock.

His favorite rifle is a Blaser single shot. He treated himself one season. He also treats himself to a safarie every once in awhile. He works hard 10 to 12 hours a day so he deserves it. He is also the proud owner of a WWll I gave him.

What does this have to do with the size of a JKM? Well, I'll tell you. It was Danny who confirmed my suspicions even a small pocket knife can do 90 percent of dressing chores for Big game. He used a German Eye pocket folder for dozens of heads of game, including Elk. I have that knife today-good steel.

I took a chiruwa AK elk hunting this season to make quick work of a few major sections, but it is a smaller blade that gets the nod for most tasks.

Would a JKM do the job? Do they make great Dannies in Texas? Does a Bear sh-t in the Woods worrying about the size of blade that'll carve him out?

I think the JKM one right sized knife. Almost talked myself into one.
I have a Browning knife the same size.
