I have had experiences where the employers paid for my expenses, so when I run into a large company that does not, is that a bad first sign?

Thanks.

P.S. when the HR rep is actually ignoring the question in the e-mail, is that a bad sign?

Could be I'm just a hick but what do you mean interview expenses? Car mileage? Airfare? Overnight Lodging?

If it's just mileage it's not worth worrying about, anything major else should be understood before hand.

Miileage + hotel.

Yup. We cleared it up. I guess some HR folks like to bluff and see how desperate the candidate is, and when they see you're not desperate, they become more agreeable. Kinda like car buying (sad).

But, like my ex loved to say, "don't fall in love with any job so much that you can't walk away from it."

Hmm ... I can't help wondering if your ex said that about marriages too....

If its out of town, I expect travel expenses to be paid.

I thought it was a given; but once bitten, I ask now.

No expenses, no interview.

In general, the interviewer pays extraordinary expenses of the interviewee. If you just need to drive across town to the interview, then don't mention it. But if there's airfare, hotel rooms, meals, etc., then those should be paid.

Yeah, "should, would, could."

When I mentioned my experience, that firm was no longer allowed to "recruit" from the school's Career Center.

Wasn't too hip on their interview "technique" either. (Nor were others.)

Sweet job though.
