Got a job offer. We need a couple or three workers who will enjoy riding herd on about 2,000 to 3,000 people (don't have exact number) who have posted over 100,000 posts in the last few years.
Mostly "God and Gun Loving American Patriot nuts" that don't fit in anyplace else (I am one), and assorted characters around the world.
People who don't seem to sleep and have very strong opinions on EVERYTHING!
Membership is as high as $25 a year, but almost anyone can come in free. So this is NOT an exclusive club.
The "Meeting place" is open 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Highly charged atmosphere. Never know when a brawl can occur. Never know if it a real, serious brawl or just some people "playin" with each other, or has someone's meds kicked in --- or NOT kicked in.
This group of people have banded together around a common symbol: A large knife/small sword magnificently made out of Mercedes truck springs. A khukuri made by workers in a special enclave in Nepal. Not your usual garden club.
Has one of your brothers just lost someone near and dear? Is someone stuck in a foreign country and lonley? Is someone in a dangerous place and scared? Did a child get sick? Die? Did a lover or spouse walk out?
And though just about everybody else can make almost any kind of post, maybe you as a mod, should keep strong opinions to yourself.
Whoops, there is a ruckus! Are they drunk and usually a good guy? Do they need to be thrown out or given a second chance? Will their friends jump you if you remove them? Will your friends jump you if you don't?
Will your friends decide that you are on an ego trip when you see yourself just trying to do your job?
Do you want to change your Forum name to "Solomon?"
Do you mind taking over for two charismatic leaders who passed over and now are being romanticized?
"Well I know that UB would have done something different than what you just did......" Rusty could have handled this better than you....."
Though you will be privy to a LOT (more than you want to know of behind-the-scenes stuff), you won't be able to use any of it openly.
You will lose friends you knew for a long time and never know why they suddenly give you the "cold shoulder." Maybe its Fate.
To cap it all off, you will not be paid, not a dime! Very few people will take time to say, "Attaboy!" -- "You handled that well" -- "The right decision at the right time." --- "Job Well Done!" "Proud of how you handled that situation!"
A job I would never want.
A job that I think we should all raise a glass (maybe a whole case) in thanks to our very own fine moderators on this Forum!
