Joe Frazier has died

Smokin Joe Frazier. One of Philadelphia's finest. May he rest in peace

RIP Mr. Frazer.

I remember when I was a kid, heavyweight boxing matches were something that the whole country looked forward to - it was like the superbowl and world series all wrapped into one event.

Smokin' Joe was one of the best and was not into the "showmanship" side of boxing.

Godspeed Smokin' Joe.

Yea that was one of the few things me and my Dad had in common, we used to love watching the fights together. Joe was a good one, hate to hear it. Boxing has become something else lately, and its b/c the ones like Joe are dieing off. Rest easy champ!

Saw this on the front page this morning. Takes me back to when I was a kid. He was a true warrior. Back in the days when you got to see a boxing match that was on TV at no cost rather than the huge production PPV events that are going on now. RIP smokin Joe!!!!

Smokin' Joe Frazier...what a fighter! He had a left hook that came up from the floor that could knock out a moose! It was sad to see he passed...and from cancer, no less. God Bless, Champ.

RIP, Joe.

The Thrilla in Manila was the third and final famous boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier for the Heavyweight Boxing Championship of the World, fought at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines on October 1, 1975.
The bout is often ranked as one of the greatest fights of 20th century boxing...

Seeing the results of round 14, Eddie Futch decided to stop the fight between rounds rather than risk a similar or worse fate for Frazier in the 15th. Frazier protested stopping the fight, shouting "I want him boss," and trying to get Futch to change his mind. Futch simply replied, "It's all over. No one will forget what you did here today", and signaled to referee Carlos Padilla to end the bout. Unknown to Frazier's corner, Ali had walked back to his own corner after the 14th and instructed Dundee to cut his gloves off. Ali later said that "Frazier quit just before I did. I didn't think I could fight any more." He would later claim that this was the closest to dying he had ever been, and also stated, "Joe Frazier, I'll tell the world right now, brings out the best in me. I'm gonna tell ya, that's one helluva man, and God bless him." In a brief post-fight interview with one of the commentators, Ali announced, "He is the greatest fighter of all times, next to me."

R.I.P. Joe.

I'm a huge sports fan, and the three Ali vs Frazier bouts are the best sporting events I've ever seen. I was young, but will never forget watching them.

One of the great champions. All heart. He was small for a heavyweight but could bang with the best of them. I'm a little too young to actually have seen his fights with Ali live, but they were something else when you watch them on ESPN Classics. Unbelievable heavyweight boxing back then, Frazier, Ali, Forman, Norton, all in their prime with real tough journeymen like Jerry Quarry and George Chuvalo.
