I like my 501 squires! I have two that were well used and kind of worn out. I replaced them with a new one. I Still like my old ones because they were with me on most of the high points and low points of my adult life.

I sent my worn 501s to Joe Houser to see if they could be fixed up. A couple of weeks later, Joe sent them back to me totally restored. They look better than my new one. Thank you Joe! And thanks to the Buck Company.

isn't that awesome...they did that to an old 184 i had, i was literally shocked when it was returned :D

First I'd like to say this is my first post. I've been following along for few weeks and I didn't feel worthy. You guys are a bottomless pit of knowledge. Thanks!!!

As for the Buck company. Some outfits have got it and some are still looking for it. BUCK HAS IT!. A few weeks ago I lost a little unobtainium screw out the scale on my Alpha Dorado and I tried to find one at all the usual suspects. Called Buck, explained the problem and asked how much to buy a few. They said don't worry about it and a few days later I had a dozen screws in my hand. What more can I say.

Thanks again guys. Its a real education reading your posts.

Mike, Cool story to start off your first post!!!

Welcome to the Buck forum. Just jump in any old time with all your stupid questions :D . We have all been there and done that already :D

Sirusly, as the Goose would say, we all have a fun time here. Truly a wealth of info about Buck knives.

Be prepared to join the addiction!

Thanks Pack Rat.
Addiction is right. I always had this knife thing going on but I just started getting "sirus". Now I gotta make sure I get to the mail box before my wife. She just doesn't under stand why anyone would need more than one knife. LOL.

Ask her how many knives she has in the kitchen and if she uses the same knife for every cutting job when she's making dinner..... ?????

Just to add to that, my favorite college professor used to remind each of his classes at the beginning of each semester that there were no stupid questions. He then went on to state that there were, however, stupid answers!!! Dr. Glenn Martin was a giant of a man who changed my life with his teaching. Our loss in June 2004 became Heaven's gain when he went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Sorry for your loss, Larry.

My old Papa said "...no stupid questions, only those that are not asked."

There is a wealth of knowledge around here...feel welcome and ask. Preston

Thanks for making feel welcome guys. Probably should start a different thread for this.......but...........I been trying to figure out if you can date a vintage "NIB" knife by the style of the box. I've got a no date stamp NIB 124 so I figure it's pre '86 but where do I go from there? It's has the wood scales and it's in a faded tan(?) flip top box. Maybe you guys have already beat this one to death and I haven't come across the right thread. So if you could point me in the right direction I'd be abliged.
Thanks Mike

Mike, we've beat alot of things to death...that isn't one of them:rolleyes:. I do know that there are ways of determining the production date. The box is one of them.

Someone who knows will probablely be along. Posting a picture would help greatly, with some closeups of the handle and tang stamp. Hope this helps. Preston
