Joe made very few, if any fixed blade knives after he moved to Kerrville, TX. His forte was high end folders after he arrived here. I think Dudley is correct with his opinion about the late 70s. Does it happen to have the mark "Alamo TX" on the other side? If so then it is certainly prior to or around 1978. Based on Joe's overall fixed blade production, yours is relatively rare in the grand scheme of things.
Joe did participate in an M4 project a very few years ago with Warren Osborne, Jerry Halfrich and I think Tom Overeynder making hunting knives for testing that relatively new steel, but as I recall they were all drop point hunters and nearly identical. Tom and Jerry are the only two left to verify the details of the project, but I made and donated the sheaths for each of the knives. The whole deal was for the benefit of Wounded Warriors as I recall.
You have a really nice example of Joes earlier work.
