Hello all, I'm new to the forum and noticed the popularity of outdoor activites. I've been in Search and Rescue for six years now, and can't highly enoug hrecommend Joel Hardin as an experienced tracking instructor. His experience comes from a full career as a mantracker with the border patrol.

I've not had the chance to train with Tom Brown, but have trained with Joel many times. For those of us on the western half of the US, there are classes all over, many times a year.

just food for thought. I am not a rep of Joel's nor do I make any money from anyone who attends his classes.

I would be interested in a link to Joel Hardins tracking school as well. If you are really interested in tracking, David Scott Donlan is a pretty good guy too. His tracking style is based more around tactical tracking, but every bit helps. I can get a link if you are interested.

That's a good link. I just got back from teaching an in-house tracking class for a local sar group, actually. I've not had the chance to train with Donelan, but I have his book. From description alone, I prefer Joel's method. I look forward to taking one when I can afford it, though. That's the nice thing about Joel's classes. After you get to a certain level of training, you're required to teach others tracking. Partially because it reallt sets the information in your head, and because it's more cost effective for groups to have a volunteer teach for a weekend than pay joel all the time. Not to knock on Donelan's program.

I am in about the same boat as you except most of my tracking experience comes from the tactical side. It is interesting for me to see the difference in the different styles of tracking and how they compliment each other. Unfortunately my time is taken up for most of this year so I doubt I will get one of Joel's courses under my belt. Its always good to have a reference though.

There's also a really great school called On Point Tactical Tracking on the East coast. http://www.onpointtactical.com/ and they have classes on SAR tracking, tactical tracking, beyond SERE, combat tracking, point man, etc. Can't recommend it enough.
