This big frontier style knife and sheath set features John's evolving 'fold formed copper elements' on the handle, guard and throat of the sheath. The leather inlay on the sheath is also new (Ostrich leg leather in this case). Blade is 11 3/4 inches and forged from leaf spring steel. The prominent clip on this blade is especially nice - attractive and functional in the fighter style, it also helps give good balance to the knife in hand. OAL is 16 3/4 inches and the handle is Elk antler with fold formed copper pommel and ferrule. The "S" guard is wrought iron, also with fold formed copper elements and a stippled copper plate on the front. John's enthusiasm for what he does got all over this one!

As usual John hits a home run way out in left field. It dont get any better than this until his next one.:thumbup:KT

Yes, and it's big. Did I mention that? Ha.

For a knife of this size, and in reality it is only slightly oversized and in the same proportion all over, it handles easily and comfortably. The piece of Elk antler that John used naturally results in a larger overall knife. From top to bottom in front of the pommel it's just shy of 2 inches - flatter on the sides. So the hand grip is more compact and useful than with something rounder. It came together real nice ...and I need to get on the stick and send it on to its new owner. It's easy to keep around!

From the photography perspective, as I've said in the past, if you don't get the fringe right on something like this, it tanks the image. This fringe laid out just right.

The next two images show both sides of the knife and the excellent scrimshaw by Linda Karst Stone. This was John's CKCA mini-show offering at BLADE Show this year. It's another example of John just going for it. He must have a lot of time to dream up ideas when he's at work out on the river - where, BTW, he occasionally harvests water-logged wood from the river to dry out and make knife display stands out of. ;)

I just love this knife John has taken the frontier style bowie to the next level his use of the fold form forging on this knife really is a first what it shows me is that John is a innovator and working hard to put his work in a class of it's own very nice John Really Very nice

These are getting more and more refined. Really cool stuff going on in this one in particular.

Fabulous!! Very creative use of design and materials with an artful reference to the past.

Thanks everone, and thanks for the great pic and post Buddy! This one was a lot of fun! When I first discovered fold forming,I could'nt wait to try it on a knife, and this one was the first, but certainly not the last!

Splendid. So rich in character, so warm to view.

Masterfully captured; as it needed to be.

Thanks for the smiles!

John and Buddy, great work by both. Really like the flow, texture and patina's you put into your knives. The copper on the second blade is very cool and Linda's work is always top notch.
