John Cohea in Nettleton, Mississippi has made the best of being born in the wrong century.

John used leaf spring steel with forge texture and laminated antique copper finish for the blade. He fashioned the guard from wagon wheel wrought iron and handled the knife with a choice piece of Sambar crown stag set off by a textured copper band and rawhide wraps. At 16 1/2 inches OAL, it speaks with authority. The sheath is a complex Mexican loop style. Together, they so hit the mark that I started calling the package Showtime while it was in my studio.

John cant tell you how long I have been waiting for you to get this knife and sheath done. Then had to wait for the pictures. It was well worth the wait. The knife is OUTSTANDING and the sheath speaks for it self. GREAT, GREAT combinatioon. KT

Thanks guys, and thanks Buddy for the post and fantastic photo.I call this one my Mountain Man Bowie. As Buddy mentioned,it's a big one, forged from late model Ford pick up leaf spring steel, and is two inches wide and slightly more than 1/4" thick at the spine with a distal taper. The stag has been dyed and oil finished, and was given to me by my good friend and collector Terry Morin, aka Kid Terico. My first thought when I saw the stag was mountain man bowie, and this was the vision I had!
The sheath took almost as long to make as the knife did.The inlay is rattlesnake skin, given to me by my friend Dave Cole, who recently left us,RIP Dave. The inlay on the loop and belt loop of the sheath is textured copper. It's a little hard to make out in the pic,but the edges of the belt loop and the underside is copper also. You can see this one in person at the AKA show in Feb.,it is however, already sold. The buyer bought it with the condition that it goes to the show, and was kind enough to agree! Thanks for looking!

Always Amazing work John. What a beautiful knife and sheath. Wish I could get to the show to see it in person.

There are so many subtle details to admire. I'm drawn to the little curls on the guard, and how they thin out right there. Nice.

Great one, John. Buddy: You make it look too easy. Beautiful! KT: Good for YOU!

Damn, that is one seriously impressive bowie. I hade an early peek at it on FB, but the pic shows much more clearly here. Love the crown satg (no better choice on a Mountain Man piece) and the copper in blade and fittings. The sheath is off the hook. Brilliant.

What a nice combo John And it sounds like this is going to be in KT's collection I see why you wanted to get a pro to shoot it nice job Buddy.

Dave this one is going elsewhere, but KT and I have one on the drawing board right now,and it's another one that will have people scratching thier heads and saying WTH!

Wow, another great piece John. There is so much to look at without any one thing jumping out and "choking" you. Fantastic work again bud!
