I'm reading some old books (the Survivalist) by Jerry Ahern and a Crain Life Support System X knife is used by the hero.

Is this a real knife or just somthing that he has dreamed up??? For the most part the knives and other weapons are extremly accurate.

They are real. It's Jack Crain and he is located in Texas. Haven't heard much about him since Predator though.

The Survivalist series was very well done and contained some techniques that helped save my life. Jerry Ahern designed a knife called the Big Ugly One and I think? made by J.Crain or? Either way, Rourke and Ahern rule! Jason

P.S. If you like Jerry Ahern, check out his other titles written under Axel Kilgore.

I have a LSII and my soon to be ex-wife has the Hunter model. It took about 2 years and alot of phone calls to get them but they are fine knives. I also have read the survivalist series along with just about all of Jerry's books. He is also a very fine leather man. I and my ex have quite a few of his holsters and mag holders. His phone number is (706)335-5715. I'm not sure if he still offers the BIG UGLY but I'm sure he could answer any questions. Hope this helps.

Pictures, Pictures anybody have any pictures of Crain knives??? I've been unable to find any on the net so far

How about a good source of books in the Survivalist series??? I have books 1-17 and am hooked on them. From what I can find they are no longer in print, but go up to somthing like 27 or 29. I've been unable to find any kind of web page dealing with Jerry Ahern, Ahern Enterpries (found mention of this but nothing solid) or anything else related to him.

Amazon does have his current books and you can try and order some out of print books (I did) but they do not offer the complete series, plus their are no used book stores in my area.

I'll call sometime after the 1st as long as the phones are still working

UGH!!!!!!!!!

Three of the knives are very prominently featured in the movie Predator.

There are almost no images on the web of Jack Crain's knives. However, I hope to change that a little.

I plan to have a few of his pieces for sale, first quarter of 2000. Some Predator Knives, some not. Most of his post Predator bladeware can be found in Europe (particularly Italy) right now.

I have heard very bad things about Mr. Crain such as him not delivering blades. If you do a search for him in year 1 here you can learn more about this. As I remember, he is one of the one Steven Dick refers to in one of his editorials about makers taking money and not supplying the goods.

thanks and take care

I never knew that Rudy. Thanks for the input. Do you remember the specific issue where Steve Dick mentioned that?

I amassed almost a complete collection of Survivalist books by shopping at local used book stores. Mr. Ahern can also be reached directly at 706-335-5715, and he might be able to send you select books. I purchased a copy of his The Freeman through a telephone conversation.

Mr. Ahern's CCW: Carrying Concealed Weapons is also excellent, and published by Blacksmith Corporation Publishers. (I think they have a website, but I don't remember the address.)

Those starved for new Ahern fiction can pick up a brand spanking new copy of The Golden Shield of IBF, which I got at Barnes and Noble a few months ago. It's a sword & sorcery fantasy novel, and was excellent.

And tomorrow when you wake up it will be worse.

Sorry Mr. Prisco, I don't remember which issue it was. At www.tacticalknives.com you can read the editorials of most of the issues from the past 2 years and it is in one of the earlier editorials on the site. Just go to back issues and click on the earlier issues. Mr. Dick desn't name him in teh article but one of the members here, I believe it was Pigsticker, revealed he was the one who brought it to mr. Dick's attention or at least talked to him about it.
Do a search for Jack Crain as well in year 1.

thanks and take care
