Hello fellow Porchsters
It's time for my Annual Sci-Fi GAW, I will draw the winner on August 10th, my first day back to school/work.
To enter: Have a paid membership, have at least 50 posts in the traditional forum, and post a sci-fi themed picture... traditional knives ONLY please.

See the irony yet? I'm giving away a knife that I don't personally feel is a traditional... but it's Sci-Fi, so we will make believe. 🤣
I will choose my top 10 favorite entries and they will get a couple of extra names in the pot for the drawing... so content matters but doesn't guarantee victory.

The prizes; A basically new Lionsteel Barlow and one of my hand made slips (still have to make the slip)... Good Luck and May the Force be with You.

Not an entry but definitely golden age Sci Fi.

Not in (I like the look of barlows, but I [for some reason I don't understand] never carry them, and I have already been fortunate enough to win one of your fine slips). But this is one of the GAWs I look forward to most all year, so I have to participate. For now, these pictures will just be placeholders until I have a new one that actually incorporates traditional knives. My Sci-Fi highlight of the year was definitely getting to take my kids to Black Spire Outpost in Disneyland. So here is a picture of my son in his Stormtrooper outfit getting to meet a real Stormtrooper, and then the three lightsabers we built with our respective alternate colors (mine is the yellow one in the middle).

I'll have a go! I've adored SF my whole life, and I've always wanted to try one of lionSTEEL's modern traditionals. Thank you for the generous GAW, and good luck to all entrants!

I'm crossing the sci-fi streams a bit here. :) The background is part of a map of Arrakis, the planet central to Frank Herbert's 1965 Dune and its sequels, and one of my favorite sci-fi settings -- and a world in which knives have particular significance. Atop it are two of my favorite slipjoints, a Schatt & Morgan #99 Scout in ebony and a Boker Solingen Barlow in grenadilla. Accompanying them are an unopened 1984 Fleet wax pack of trading cards from the David Lynch Dune movie that came out that year, and two challenge coins from the Third Imperium, the universe of the Traveller roleplaying game. One of the first SF RPGs, Traveller is still in production (now in its fifth edition), and still helmed by game designer Marc Miller -- who also produces in-universe props for the game, like these coins.

In closing, Dune's Litany Against Fear -- which I can recite from memory, and have found useful on a number of occasions. :D

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Edit - not an entry, won the first draw on John's Case pass-around box. Thanks John, for another generous GAW and good luck to those playing.

About the only thing I can come up with right now, most of my sci-fi stuff is still sitting in a storage facility.

Movie cracks me up every time I watch it. Not iconic sci-fi, and outright tongue-in-cheek spoofing of some of the '50s and '60s sci-fi movies.

thanks for luring all these cool, entertaining posts for us to see!

1950's Sci Fi will always have a special place in my heart. I grew up watching those movies in the 60's. 🤠
I got to go visit last week, it was so much fun. 🤠
I wonder if their aim would improve with a better helmet design? 🤣
Now if that had an alien ship that was firing giant lego blocks at it... ;)
My son is a HUGE fan of Dune... I was ruined by the first movie.
That movie cracks me up too. 🤣
I wonder if his clothes are in his suitcase? 🤣
I grew up watching it and it's still one of my favorite TV shows. 🤠
Fire up the diamond cannon. 🤣
Is this what you're looking for John?...seriously...its got everything.
Now THAT's entertainment. 🤠

But wait...I know you want more...I scored this Lord Vader mask from an op shop for $4.00aud thinking what a bargain...weeks later I accidentally pressed the hidden talk button...I couldnt figure out how to make it talk for ages....

Yes with some hastily cobbled together gunpowder.
