Hello all,

It drives me nuts sometimes to be the only one around here who appreciates these.

The top one is a John Fitch DP hunter forged from 01 steel. I love the handle and the balance of the knife.

The bottom knife is a Jim Ferguson Gentleman's belt knife with his raindrop pattern blade and California Buckeye handle. Another sweet knife to hold.

I hope you enjoy them. Email for other photos if you want them.

Be safe,

Mike

Hey Magilla; trust me, you aren't the only one who appreciates those knives. I dont think I've ever seen one of John's knives that I didnt like. Some, I like a lot more than others, but I like them all.

Mr Ferguson's B.A.C.K.A knife from last year.Damascus and Ironwood.Nice.

nifrand,
nice knife. The sheaths that come with Mr. Ferguson's knives really compliment them. The belt sheath I have looks similar to yours but is a nice hand worked brown.
Thanks for the input.
Be safe,
Mike

Both are beautiful Mike.
Don't go nuts, there are a bunch of us that are already nuts over John and Jim's work.

John decided not to go for his M.S. stamp this year so I am just biding time on his dagger until next year and I am already excited over it.

Gus,

I am surprised to hear John did not go for his MS rating this year. Has there been a story to this that has hit the forums? If there was I missed it and would appreciate an update.

Thanks sir,
Mike

As you've now discovered, you're far from alone. Another Fitch fan here standing up to be counted. Here's my little Fitch tctical:

I'm not familiar with Ferguson's work, but the knife you've pictured sure looks like something I'd be proud to own. come to think of it, there's something about bladesmiths and the letter "F" - I could be pretty happy just collecting the works of Fisk, Fitch, Flournoy, Fogg, Foster, Filicietti etc....

Cheers,

RogerP

Come to think o

As far as the M.S. stamp, I do not think it would be good to give all the details (that would be up to John). Suffice to say, John's work may have passed (you never can tell till the judging is done. They are tough and they should be).

John just decided that one of his knives was not something he wanted to submit, since it was not up to his own high standards. He was not concerened about not making the grade. He would not have felt good about the situation, if he did pass. To me, that decision speaks volumes about the type of person he is and his high level of integrity as well as regard for his fellow knife makers. He is the second person that I know who has made that type of decision at the 11th hour after the knives were made and ready to go. When John does go for it, you can bet that the knives he will send to the judges are the best possible effort he can make without exception to any detail. Kinda like any knife that leaves his shop if it has a flaw it ain't goin' nowhere.

That is probably more than I should have said .

The only one that appreciates those, Huh? Not a chance! I have a knife on order from John Fitch at this moment. It is going to look a lot like that one that Roger posted a picture of.

The Ferguson knife looks great as well, but this is a maker that I am not very familiar with. Thanks for the picture.

jim makes a sells a lot of damascus under the name Twisted Nickel, i have use it a few times and was very happy. he is a menber of califonia knifemakers assoc, as am i, and currently on the board. he does the blade west show in sept, if you get a chance to see his knives you will impressed. he is world class. the sheath in the pic, of the ferguson knife appears to be made by russ green. he has done shealths for me in the past and is a mighty fine knife maker in his own right.

Gus,
Thanks for the info about John. I cannot say we are good friends or anything but we did speak on the phone a bunch of times and he seemed to be a great guy. I did not want to call him without a few details but I am going to call him tomorrow and just say hello. Thanks.

Roger,
Thanks for posting the great knives. If in speaking to John I find I can afford one of those small tacticals I may order one tomorrow. That thing is sweet. The large bowie is out of my range but the pictues almost make it mine in a way. Kind of.. Sort of... Ok, not really.
Thanks.

Rhinoknives,

Your are correct in all of the info you posted about Mr. Ferguson. Many makers use his damascus and some have had knives featured in Blade and other magazines.
I bought my knife at the SCBlades show in Costa Mesa but had seen one simialar at the Blade Show West a while back. Mr. Green did make the excellent sheath that fits my knife perfectly in color and fit. Mr. Ferguson's website is www.twistednickel.com just in case you are tempted.

Thanks for all the great replys and be safe,
Mike

John does excellent work and always strives to produce a better product every time. He also has some good friends that are more than willing to help if a problem ever arises.
It makes me proud to call the man, "Friend"
For those that don't know him very well, if you get the chance to meet him, you will enjoy the moment.

I have several of Jim's knives and like them a lot. He made me one with blued twisted nickel damascus that is terrific. He was known for his pushdaggers in the early years but doesn't make many anymore (although I still think it's part of his trademark).
