What do you guys think about his knives? I actually work with John and I am proud to call him my friend. He told me when it starts to cool off some to come to his shop and he will show me how to make my own knife! I am very excited to have this chance to do this. Big John is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.:)

Best of luck learning to forge, jim guy !
I have a few JS examples of John's work.

Yeah, I told John I have no experience making knives. He said no problem, he will show me everything that there is. Im stoked just to be able to see him work. He has 3 knives to make now and then its my turn.:D

Yeah he is a great guy. He helps me out a lot at work, loans me tools and advice. He is also a very funny guy, makes the day go by faster working with him.

Who wants to fire the first shot, because it isn't going to be me?

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Nobody fired.
I'll admit to hearing things but if anyone has any facts, I'd be interested in hearing them.
Please excuse my bluntness.

I also recall some "things" on the forum a few years ago. I am not in a position to state "facts" or relate any direct experiences with Mr. Fitch, but he HAS made some fine looking knives.

Doug or anyone that is curious (as I was) - If you do a "search" I think you will find, that he had some issues with fulfilling orders with one or more collectors, and with committing to promoters, and not showing up for shows.

In looking at the search results, it seems that there were far more positive posts than negative, and many references to how SHARP his knives always were!

Or Was A Helluva Good Guy.He NEVER Did Me Wrong-Not Once.I've Heard Some Bad Stories About Him,But I'm The Type Of Guy That Believes Only Half of What I hear,But Starting To believe More Of What I See Since I Had My Last Drink in June 26th, 2002.I'd Like To See John Making Knives Again.Rock On Jim-Guy

I just wish he'd come back and start making knives again, as he was really good at it.

This combo is a personal favorite from my collection - a simple damascus & stag skinner by John Fitch and a sweet Sandy Morrissey sheath.

Funniest guy I ever met by far and a great story teller. I'll never forget the one about the meth addicts who lived next door - constant yelling, screaming, fighting and just total chaos until one day their house exploded. He had us squealing like pigs!

I MET HIM AT THE BLADE SHOW A FEW YEARS BACK & HE TREATED ME VERY WELL,SHARPED MY J.F. KNIFE FOR FREE & REMOVED THE SMALL PATINA MARKS FOR ME:thumbup:

He once bought my Wife and I a Frozen Margarita after the show in Dallas. Ya know, it gets pretty damed hot down here in Texas!

Made my day a lot better. Knives and Margareta's!

What's not to like!
