With all the talk of carrying small fixed blades here I thought some would find this interesting

Here is a a video on a fantastic design from John Gray

I’m all about wharncliffe’s these days

As an edc they are unparalleled

As a defensive utility they excel

John has figured out a fantastic sheath system that is so simplistic it’s genius

John will be doing a limited run of these in a few different steels including titanium

Love your videos, thanks for taking the time to do these.

Joe thanks so much for the great video you made for John Grays new fixed blade knife, it was great how you described the knife and Sheath a really good Demo. of both.

Any idea what John plans on pricing it and when it might be sold?

Very cool. I might like to see abit deeper of a finger choil for better protection in a stab though.

You seem to really be enamoured with the Michael Janich inspired Wharnies which are just excellent knives.

Here’s my backwards knifer equivalent which I carry pretty much the exact same way horizontally on my front of belt so I can access it with either left or right hand.

Granted the Wharncliffe is probably a better utility design. Although you can get a suprising ammount of utility stuff done with a hawkbill.

So far the Street Beat is more of a true SD/EDC knife. I hope to get Charlie Mike to make me a Street Beat clone with a sharpened swedge but leaving a portion of the spine flat and jimped which will become a truly ideal edc/sd knife for me. I will be able to use the hooked spine side for my Pikal tasks and the main edge for utility! I gotta start saving.

You’re like me in that you seem to be excited by these small edc fixed blades that make good self defense options. Truth is I would love to wear a katana and wakizashi around everywhere but for some strange reason people were looking at me funny.....the nerve!

I really like that velcro strap idea! It shouldn’t be that hard to mount your own too to alot of sheaths.

Yes I’m digging the wharncliffs these days

I used to carry much larger knives but in the professional setting I am in now the smaller pieces really work well for me

I like Janich’s thoughts on blade design that is for sure

Planned power cuts work better to disable than hunt and peck

With a large blade (over 9 inches) you get that lead pipe effect

With small blades you need to rely on targeting more

Nice knife, but a cane or walking stick (AKA: "Quarter Staff") is better for SD than a knife.
You don't have to get within reach of your attacker to use them.

I carry a gun and most days I’m in a suit so I’ll skip the quarter staff :)
Can't say as though I blame you on that. :)
I hope you are never in a situation where you need your sidearm. :)
Trust me. Been there done that. The stress does not end when the shooting stops.

Well it depends. Pikal strikes tend to target the face and neck area. Also strikes to the body where the blade sinks in supposedly tend to rip on their way out since the edge is reversed. Anyway we can save it for prac tac.

One thing I will add is that it may be important for your enemy to realize you have a knife because alot of people who have been stabbed report not even knowing it until afterwards. They thought they were just getting punched.

I will say I like the handle style of Grey’s model more than Janich’s typical handle design as seen on the Yojimbo 1 and 2.

The handle shape actually reminds me alot of the Vitesse Design Morpheus front flipper which never made it past the prototype phase.

Great looking blade JParanee, but...you look like you could hold your own with or without a blade for self defense...

Me too

No one ever wants to harm anyone but everyday you need to prepare to take care of yourself and loved ones

Thx for posting

I like that very much

I would like it more with a thumb ramp

I’m getting kinda old but I still can do okay :)

Thx for the kind words

That’s what the dog is for. To look mean and bark at the door. Until they walk inside, then it’s like; You have hands? Pet me please!
