I got word that CQC Knives will be having another sale next week on Greco knives.

More importantly they will be offering the following models in FLAT GROUND-SATIN FINISH!:

MST IV
Companion III
Whisper Clip Point

Those familiar with John's work realize what a departure this is for him as most of his work has been hollow-ground and "Crib-safe" greycoat or black powder finish. I'm looking forward to seeing how these comeout.

Pics should be up in a week over at www.cqcknives.com

I have one of the Flat Ground MST MK IV. John Greco sent it to me to look at when I bought one of his folders. It has a Tumbled Finish, very nice with coco bolo scales and is unmarked, and very sharp. I liked it. Good looking and a good , functional size. It will be leaving for Afghanistan shortly with a Special Forces A Team.

May God bless and protect the man who carries it! I really prefer the Cocobolo wood handled Greco's it adds a really classy touch to his knives imho. I'm sure the Greco you mentioned is a fine looking and working representation of John Greco's work. I have an MST II in grey and the black-coated MST IV, both of which have a very tactical 'heft' that should suit the above purpose very well.

I am really looking forward to seeing how these new knives look\feel\cut. Hopefully John will be offering more of his knives with the Cocobolo handles 'standard' again. Honestly, I'm getting a little tired of seeing black Micarta everywhere! The Cocobolo handles probably will look even better with the satin finish.

Thanks for sharing the info.

What exactly is the Companion III?
I'm interested but I wanted the Recon but too bad they're not on sale....

To the best of my knowledge the Companion III would be the third style Companion that John has made. It is the one at CQC that is done up in grey-coat finish out of .210" 8670 steel stock.

The older companions were either A2 tool steel or 1075/1085 tool steel I believe. Also the older models were in 1/4" stock.

Most notable change between the 'old' Companions and the 'new' Companion would be the elimination of the grind line in the middle of the blade and the change to the swedge on top of the blade. Also, newer blade is a slimmer overall profile than the older ones.
