John- building on this thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=707754

I'm thinking about a very small knife, thin stock 1/16", maybe 3/32"- do you have that thin of steel? doable?

something along these lines (credit card outline around knife):

thanks

I use 3/32" often, and usually have some on hand. I`ve done 1/16" 2 times, so don`t keep it around. Those holes in the handle have to be round, not oval. Email or pm me.

after looking at some more (I have a 3/32" knife)- looks like it would have to 1/16" to work for a wallet

round holes would work, maybe three of them? squared spline w/ some jimping of course :D

email coming :)

Depending on the cost of this I might also want one. If it ends up a possibility could you post something John? I think all of us are starting to go into tin knife withdrawl now that we're not getting the freebies so it might be a popular option.

I doubt I will offer something like this on a regular basis. If I were to say I would sell them for $25, I would not get any takers, yet nobody figures the material, belts, heat treat, or shipping costs, let alone my time. Last year, on the tin knives, I basically gave away over $250 worth of knives. Who else does that?

I am relatively new here, but I think anyone who spends some time talking with John realizes his profit margin is very slim. He has answered all my newbie questions and been very helpful to someone new to custom knives. His primary reason for doing what he does is obviously not monetary.

Knives are a luxury for me and I will support those that value honesty, integrity and craftsmanship. John is someone that I have bought from and will continue to order from because he falls into that category. If he tells me it costs a certain amount, I know that is REAL close to what it cost him to make it.

John, if you make these sign me up for one. :)

John, don't get me wrong, I loved the free tin knives and realize that it was very generous on your part.

I was just stating that I would like some more things like that. As we discussed in the small vs big thread, these are cheaper options and likely more useful to those of us who work in suburban/urban settings.

I think that you should re-introduce the tin knives or something similar, at a price point that allows them to be worth your time, and if people want them they can buy them. If shipping was not an issue (such as a tin knife or similar included with a larger knife order), I assume that it would be a better proposition for you.

Just my thoughts.

How about having a finger recess where your first hole would be ?
Sorry for the rough sketch but you should get the idea.....

both very interesting designs that look like they would work, I think the sketched out ones should work as well and might be a little more "JK-esque" :)

got to have the requisite spine jimping of course :D

the knife came out better than I expected :)

1/16" stock, 3.5" overall (length of a credit card)

sheath is plastic milk jug w/ a couple of plastic grommets, wrapped w/ gorilla tape (almost looks like carbon fiber :D)

Very, very cool. Great idea.
