I love custom fixed blades as much as anybody, but nothing beats a nice light folder for every day carry.
John Perry JS had this one on his table at BLADE last June. I watched a lot of folks pass on it. Too bad for them but lucky for me!
Handle is titanium with micarta insert. Blade is 2 3/4" and closed the knife is 4 1/4". It is very light yet sturdy. No nail nick needed as the grind is flat, creating a nice wedge at the spine. Simply pinch and open.
One of the subtle yet important design aspects of this folder is the rounded surfaces everywhere on the handle. In fact that's what gives rise to the interesting pattern brought out in the micarta.
The filework is very nicely done, including the screw heads. There is zero play at the pivot with the blade open, yet the action is smooth as can be.
It's nice to own a knife that continues to satisfy day after day after day..........

Geez, that one floats my boat, too. Great score. What few times I have handled JP's work, each one is quality.

I love the grain in the inlay pattern.

Great image as well. Nice to experiment and try new things. That works for me!

Wow, what a great knife. Looking at the picture I never would of thought the handle to be titanium, very nice.

I remember that knife at BLADE and handled it after Dan Farr told me I had to check it out. It was a super sweet piece and flawless as far as my eye goes. When a fellow knifemaker recommends someone else's work, it's in your best interest to check it, it's usually something special. John simply nails precision as well as anyone. I have a sweet take-down piece on order with him and when I get that cleared up it's time to talk about a folder. Nice score!
