My brother gave me an Old Timer stockman back in 1970. I used that knife daily for nearly 25 years. Cleaned squirrels, rabbits ,fish and lots of every day cutting tasks. Then one day someone gave me another Old Timer (890T), so it replaced the first one. While cleaning out drawers I found the older one. Its derlin scales are faded. The clip blade is shorter and thinner from many years of use and is missing the shield. Using a magnifying glass I read the tang stamp for the first time. It read (JOHN PRIMBLE ,BELKNAP,IN USA 935). Were knives with this stamping common back then?

That Old Timer is an 8OT made by Schrade, around 1970-73.
Schrade made some knives for Balknap back then, and stamped the main blade "JOHN PRIMBLE ,BELKNAP,IN USA" and "935" on the reverse side. I would say they are still around. However, the sellers ask a premium over the Schrade 8OTs.
I have some of then in my collection. These two as new 935s came in an envelope, showing the price $4.75 each in 1973.. Ken

Thanks for the information. This knife is well worn and probably not of much value. Because it was my first real knife as a boy, it is my personal favorite.

did Schrade make any other blades for Primble? i have one from my father which is pinned like a Schrade.

This is a close-up of an 935 made by Schrade - same knife as the Schrade 8OT

Beautiful knives Koldgold.

I also remember reading a list posted somewhere by Codger that showed Schrade and Ulster produced knives for Belknap.

I purchased an Old Timer stockman in Moultrie, Georgia, USA in the late 1960's. The main blade was stamped John Primble. Loved it. Unfortunately I lost it. Haven't been able to find one since. I look at flea markets, knife swap shows, tec.
