I had been looking at these for a couple of weeks. This morning I said, "cutter, you only live once, so go for it!" and that is just what I did.
I had a JWS before and had to sell it a couple years ago during the "Divorce" but now that things have straightened out for the past 1.5 years, I thought it time to treat myself with a second custom folder.
My first is a Mike Irie Model 11 spearpoint, and now my second one is a John W Smith Extreme SD-3 in black micarta. I don't know for sure, but I think this may be the biggest folder John has made. It has an overall length of 10.25", with a blade of 4.5". The write up says it is constructed of a heavy duty build of titanium liners and bolsters. I am anticipating an awesome knife! The other one I had was built like a Swiss timepiece, and as solid as a tank, so I expect this one will follow suit.
As I said, I had been looking at these over the past couple of weeks. The website had 5 of these and as I watched they slowly begain to dissappear, and today there were only 2 left, the black micarta and one in ironwood.
I've read as much as I could find on John W. Smith and have found that many, many people consider him to be one of the finest builders around today.
 From the knives I've seen, and from the one example I've had, I have to agree!
Cannot copy pics from Knifearts site so I'll have to do some once the knife arrives. Btw, I wanted to make sure this knife got here so it is coming FedEx Next Day!
