I originally posted this in the "Community Forum", but it seems to be missing its audience there. This book is a goldmine for those interested in the military developments of ancient Greece and Rome.
I was in my local Barnes & Noble bookstore and they had a hardback edition of John Warry's great basic book, Warfare in the Classical World on sale for $12.98 on a remainders table. There appeared to be a goodly number of them, so I bought two as gifts since I already have a copy for myself. What with their "Readers Advantage" discount of 10%, the price is $11.68, an unbeatable price. I would go and get one while you have the chance. I have often recommended it to many of you on a number of occasions as a good place to start in studying ancient military systems, weapons, and armors, as it gives excellent basic discussions of Ancient Greek, Macedonian, and the various Roman forms of military oganization, tactics, and the weapons and armors that these require. It also gives very good discussions of the political situations that created these military conditions and of the sources from which we have gleaned what information that we have. I recommend it very highly.
