Hey there,

I have been looking for a nice user - small hunter/utility, forged. Of course I am looking at the usual suspects Primos, Wheeler, Lairson, Williams, Bradshaw (dreaming of Russ Andrews and Fitch) to name but a few. But I have also seen what look like some really nice pieces by John White on the KnifeArt site.

Has anybody any experience with his work?

Thanks,

Stephen

I've not seen his knives first hand, but I like his style. I think Danbo may have seen his stuff at Little Rock. I really like this little hunter / utility (pic from knifeart).

From his Knifeart Bio:

"John White is a graduate of the American Bladesmith Society School at Old Washington, Arkansas, where he studied under...
... Jim Crowell, Roger Massey and Mike Connor."

I think you would be pretty safe, if one of his knives tickles your fancy.
From you list of suspects, I would be inclined towards Terry Primos for a great user.

Hey STephen, I first met John at the fall hammer in last year. Super nice guy and great work on his knives. My table at LIttle Rock was just down from his and he had some really nice knives. He does good work and he is going for his JS at the blade show. He will have no problems. I would have no problem with one of his knives. Just my two cents worth.

Thanks for the input fellas.

Brion - You wouldn't happen to have an E mail address or fax No. for John White would you?

Cheers,

Stephen

John had some of the nicest knives available in Little Rock in February. My money was already gone by the time I got to his table(he was in the back row), but I sure would have bought one or three of them if I had the cash. Great looking stuff, with outstanding fit and finish.

I have a few pictures I took in Little Rock, but they are on my other computer. I will have to wait until later tonight to post them.

John had a table just down from me in Atlanta last year. I believe it was his first show, as it hadn't been too long since he'd been at the ABS school.

His work was very nice, and from the pictures, it looks like he's REALLY come along this year. John is a super nice guy, I'm sure you'd be happy with him and his work! :)

Here's a picture of some of the awesome knives John White had for sale in Little Rock. Take a guess which one I wanted. ;) (I'll give ya a hint. It's not the ones on the outside.)

Dang - that fighter / dagger make a great matched set. Nice ironwood too.

Stephen,
I met John White at the Arkansas Custom Knife Show and was impressed with his work. He was very talented and very humble.

I was going to send you an email, but you seem to have that feature disabled in your profile. I guess it's okay to post his phne number here.

Terry,

Thanks alot for the phone number, I couldn't find a listing of him any where.

Cheers,

Stephen

Ive definitely been keeping an eye on him, nice, clean designs, from the pics Ive seen, the F&F looks excellent, here's an 8" bowie, forged carbon steel blade, giraffe bone handle, nice filework, all for well under $800.
