I don't know what happened to the image in the original thread but here are some more cell phone pics. I didn't edit the color or the contrast but i set my phones exposure very high and they came out grainy. Should be good enough though.. Just pretend the blade is clean and not patina'd like it appears in the photo. Its just my images.

I like this knife a bunch. It feels heavy and substantial for the size (in a very good way). The blade is about 3/16 and a half inches wide by the guard (between 3/16 and 1/4).

I like it even better after seeing your pics as I have a clearer sense of the proportions - nice get my friend.

Agree, better pictures from more angles really helps. The guard looks much more in balance from a straight side view and you can see the true dimensions of the handle. Very nice damascus, mammoth and details. A keeper for sure.

Funny Roger, i liked it more this time in Person

I held it at the show a few weeks ago, and took that one photo.

Now its growing on me the longer i have it. I was hoping to sell it at some point but who knows. It really is nice especially in hand.

I think this knife would be elevated if John did his typical museum fit ivory. The ivory on this one is flush. I like the Hancock influenced spacers.

i like it...i'd proudly carry it and use it! I feel it would be a very effective knife.

In a couple photos it looks like John sculpted the pins, but in others they look slightly domed?
What are to dimensions?

I think the thickness of the blade at the spine and the size of the carved spacers sort of justify the guard thickness. Something even I wasn't sure of until I got it and got to inspect it some more a second time. I ONLY had the original photo I showed and the rest was just memory, but I knew something about spoke to me in person.

Kevin- I'll take measurements tonight if I can.

That's exactly the way I felt about the guard, that it matched the blade thickness, Jonathan! And then, of course, the strong distal taper to a fine point. A sweet combination of small and carryable, with strong and rugged. I truly wish I could have kept it, but.... c'est la vie! Glad you got it, pal.

like I said before, it wouldn't be right to modify the knife, but part of me wants to see the flute reversed, and instead give the guard a rounded edge profile. I think it would look much less thick and massive, especially at the top of the handle where it's most obvious, (to me). But that was John's call to make, and I respect that.

There will never be another new John White knife, and aesthetics aside, this would be an excellent knife to have in a collection. I feel truly fortunate to possess one of his knives, even though there are aspects of it that don't jive with my aesthetic. Sometimes it's worth it to accept a thing for what it is, and appreciate it despite its ideosynchrasies. If one grows to value the ideosynchrasies of a thing, one can learn something valuable.

What do you suppose the pins and spacers are made from?

My other two John White knives have stainless steel liners/pins. I will say this is most likely the same.

It sure is funny how those pins look flat in photos. I see little hammer marks all around them which gives them that domed appearance or at LEAST feel.

The knife is 8 inches long as you'll see in pics. The sharpened part of the blade is three inches.

Maybe it's just the photos, but do the spacers have a yellowish hue to them? It looks like nickel silver from here.
