I'm a newbie so forgive me if this is bad form. Can anyone tell me more about John White and his work?

Very talented maker of traditional styled, classic knives. He is known for his filework and clean fit and finish. Nice guy too. Quite a long wait if you order from the maker.

Thanks Anthony. Nice to see a familar name for the LTW forum! I'm a knife newbie.

There's a John White hunter/fighter for sale in the exchange section.
He's an ex-boat builder who is known for making quality knives with very clean designs and taseful embellishment.
And as Anthony said, he's a very nice guy.

John White received his MS stamp at the Blade Show 2007 and won the Moran Award for best knife at the 2007 Blade Show. I also believe that he won the Peck Award for best JS test knife a few years ago.

He has a chance to be pretty good. ;)

John is one of those "ringers" who was already an incredibly talented craftsman before he ever picked up a forging hammer. Suffice to say that he picked up the new skills required for smithing VERY quickly.:D I saw his MS dagger at Batsons and it was an amazing piece.

Absolutely top notch work and an absolutely first rate guy. There is an excellent small damscus fighter for sale right here on the forums. PM me if you wish for a dealer site with a carbon bowie and a couple hunters.

I found John White quite by accident, and have bought three knives from him. I am very fortunate in that he is just across the bay from me so I can sometimes find him in the shop. He has always made me feel welcome and takes time to explain what he is working on. I have #4 on order (a year wait) but that will give me time to hide the money and decide on the design/use. I can't explain attention to detail and precision anymore than I can explain beauty, but I can tell you I sold my Randalls to my brother. John is a Gentleman and a pleasure to work with. He does make a "Hunter Style" that is a bargain in the world of handmade, forged knives. The sheath is his work also. I would like to see a folder. There are literally thousands of knivemakers, but few with an eye for detail, a passion to get it right and a vision to be among the best. I have a very early model that I bought for a petty sum. I have had many offers to buy the knife. You can buy any White Knife knowing your are getting the best blade for a fair price.
