Once again due to the kindness of my friend Roger P of these and other forums, not only have I been able to see the great pieces he has obtained recently but have now been able to acquire two knives created by John White JS.
The first has been posted briefly as part of a number of personal carry/hunters that Roger either obtained or saw at Blade.
This knife is 8" oal with a handforged 1075 hand rubbed blade of 3 7/8".
While John calls the handle a chocolate Mammoth Ivory, to me it is more Carmel. Whatever the color it certainly is unique and polished to an wonderful smoothness.
The tang is hidden and then an extensively fileworked silicon bronze frame was constructed around the tang. The guard is also fileworked and is of silicon bronze.
Overall this is a wonderfully constructed work of art.
The second knife by John is a Southwest Bowie which he said just seemed to fit the nice piece of large stag that he had awaiting a blade.
The Bowie is 13" oal with a 1075 handforged/rubbed blade of 8 1/4".
The fittings which are extensively fileworked, are of nickle silver hand rubbed to 1000 grit finish and then lightly finished with Never Dull to result in a soft bronze color to the butt, guard and ferrule.
The stag is wonderfully polished with just a bit of the bark texture and a color of yellow/red that make it very exciting to view. This is one of the finest Bowies I have owned or handled and is a superb example of John's fine artistic/knifemaking talent.
