John White's Last....... A Tribute

Preston's a real class act, that's a hell of a gesture:thumbsup:
you too, Paul, but that goes without saying

Outstanding. I’m sure it was a humbling honor for both you and Mike to assist in the completion of this knife. I’m sure Ms. White will hold this dear to her heart. Thank you for sharing

Unreal how beautiful this knife is. I don’t know the maker but what a beautiful gesture to give it to his wife.

So special. Preston, Mike, Paul & Coop go above and beyond for an outstanding tribute to a gifted maker, amazing human. This will mean so much to Jill.

I will have to get one of my old SD cards, but I have the pictures of John White working on this dagger, when I was visiting John and Jill. I'll post up the pictures when I find them!

A special piece to commemorate a special person and bladesmith. Thanks to Mike and Paul for this!:thumbsup:

Very special and God Bless all involved in this wonderful tribute and remembrance.... :)

Amazing piece, John was an amazing artist. What a great gesture from all involved. Well done.

Every player was perfectly fitted to finish the work on this piece.

What an exceptional tribute to a great man.

Even I want to know more about this piece. How close was the blade forged and ground, how did Preston Gough acquire it, etc.

Paul Long called me and told me how Mike Quesenberry had undertaken the task of refitting the blade in the style of John, and would finish it.

Mike sent it to Paul for his leather work, and then to me for my photo work.

Paul also tells me that Jill White remarked that she did not have a knife from her husband. They all went out to the knife world in someone's careful collections. THAT got Paul thinking....

John had asked me early on if I would chronicle his 'Legacy Series' pieces, and I did. Right up until his unfortunate passing.

That I would be asked to finalize his work gave me special pleasure. Thank you!

The knife is in Jill's hands as I type. I hope Paul will report in with some feedback. :)

@Coop. This is what I know and I hope it is accurate. The knife is indeed in Jill's hands and she is thrilled and grateful to have it. She posted a photo and her thanks comments on Facebook. I'm not sure she even knows about Blade forums. I'm not really sure about the trail this knife took to get too it's final destination, but as I understand it. Jill gave it to Terry Vandeventer to finish, and he subsequently passed it on to Preston (not finished). Preston then contacted Mike to do the finish work. In the meantime Preston became aware that Jill did not have any of John's knives, but that she would love to have at least one. That's when Preston set this whole project in motion, and the rest is now history. My personal thanks to all who contributed in any way to make this possible.

Paul
