Well my Sebenza arrived this morning. It is a 2005 Annual Edition small sebenza with black ash burl inlays. A little underwhelmed at first but growing on me every minute. Came with a nice leather pouch. It is very pretty and starting to worry now whether I'll ever use it. May end up trading it for a plain left hander if I ever find one. Definately need to own at least one sebenza. No idea of prices but I just paid equivalent of $311 for the knife and a Vess leatherworks pouch.

Ya did good on the price and Vess does nice work. Go ahead and use it. How many other knives do you know of that are named "work"? CRK will refurbish their knives if you ever decide you want to see it shine again. :)

Congrats, use it. Sebenzas do not scratch, they develope a few charater lines...

Just concerned over the wood inserts and exposure to water, oils etc.
Any advice or do's and don'ts?

im sure there is nothing to worry about. the inlays will be fine.

DO use and enjoy it.

DONT let it sit in a drawer or safe.

very nice knife! you did very well on the price.

if you are talking about hand oils, do not fret. if you are talking about engine oil or something like that, that could do some damage.

if you are a lefty, put it up for trade in the trade forums. someone will happily trade a large lefty of your choice for that baby. or you could contribute to the forums and sell it here and make some money. then you can buy a new one of your choice. just some random thoughts.

Congrats on a great looking first Sebenza! She's a real looker. You scored a great price too

That is one good looking knife. I really like the front side inserts on the annuals. That coupled with an absolutely beautiful piece of wood and you have a winning combination that is hard to beat.

mfitz,

You’ve not joined the club subtly – you’ve stormed in with the grandest of entries! That LE is gorgeous, and you got a screamin’ deal on it! Congrats! I believe you’ve made your CRK brothers and sisters a bit envious.
Regarding the inlays being sensitive to moisture -- functionally, they will do just fine. From an aesthetics point of view, you don’t need to baby it – do indeed use the knife with confidence. I would, however, not let it dwell in a wet environment for long periods of time. I’ve been a bit moisture-abusive to a camelthorn Mnandi (went jogging with it IWB, and sent it through the washer, letting it sit against the wet pocket material for several hours), and managed to water damage the surface.
Enjoy it!

Thank you gents for the compliments. Unfortunately in the UK the sebenza is not legal edc (sub 3" slipjoints only). Anything else requires good reason to carry. The danger to oneself of a non locking blade isn't valid. Bought it blind as had never handled one before. Since taking it apart to clean and lubricate I can really appreciate the quality of the knife. Think it'll become an heirloom in years to come.

Why do I now want a large sebenza?
