I'm not sure what etiquette dictates upon joining a message forum like this one, so I thought I'd just pile right in and say 'Hi'. I've been dropping in on the HI cantina for a while now and I've noticed that so many of the participants have got a lot of good advice, compassion and obvious life experience to call upon. So different from other boards that attract loonies who just want to muddy the waters for no good reason.

I'm going to keep this short (I have a tendency to ramble) by saying that although I don't have any obvious talent for making or repairing knives, I do own a village-made khukuri (sadly, not from HI) which I use around my garden to keep the trees and hedges in check, so I do appreciate the passion and pleasure of owning such a knife.

That's it, I guess. I've said my piece for now, so I'll sit quietly over here and chip in if I have anything worth saying.

Derek.

Welcome aboard :)
I had an old military model when I was a teen, long gone. HI is where I found the only worthy replacement.
You'll find that all khukuri talk is welcome here.

Welcome to the cantina! Hope you hang around and enjoy the company!! These are a great bunch of pals!

Welcome, Derek:)
You've come to the right place for conversation on khuks, life, or anything for that matter. If you're looking for a true HI khuk then now is the time to buy! Between the specials Uncle Bill posts and his big 25% off sale going on, there's no reason not to get a khuk...or 10:) Once again, welcome to the Cantina.

Thank you for the words of welcome. Maybe I ought to just say that I haven't been a teenager for a long, long time and that I bought my Khuk from what I thought (still think) is a genuinely decent supplier in Nepal. It's serving me well and hasn't displayed any nasty vices that I can whine about. Even so, I look at Uncle Bill's offers and have to reach for a tissue - they really make my mouth water! All I need to do now is convince my long-suffering 'better half' that I really need another khuk.....maybe two, and we're in business.

Just two, that's right. :D Welcome.

Welcome Derek!

Make yourself at home here. Just read your profile. Talk about life experience. Three grown daughters, retired from the London Fire Brigade, I'll bet you could write a book! :)

Many of us were infected with the Khukuri Virus outside of HI. My first was a sirupati from Gurkha House. I was hooked, and came here looking to learn more. One thing about being in Great Britain, you probably have access to some very nice older khukuris brought back by your soldiers.

Welcome aboard!

Derek, welcome to the Psycho Ward, er Cantina, yea, that's it, Cantina.:D

Yeah, I'd watch that tendancy to ramble. We don't ramble around here. Tight ship, this. What?

Welcome, Derek. Things should be getting interesting soon, with Uncle Bill's giving the kamis something of a free hand.

Hope you like it here. Mostly harmonious. Mostly. Lots of good information, in any case.

Hey there Derek...

So very glad to meet you.

Have you given any thought recently to your insurance needs? :D

OK, well....have fun here. You have arrived during a feeding frenzy period. Bill has been chumming the waters for a few days now.

You won't be disappointed.

Welcome, Derek!

Keep the sights on the crazy deals shown here lately.

Welcome to a great place. I don't post that much, but try to learn as much as I can from all the experience from the HI Family.

Don't know what it is like now, but really enjoyed my years in England. Upper Heyford, Fairford 57-60; Huntingdon, RAF Alconbury 69-74. Met many good people.

Thanks, everyone, for all the messages of welcome, I feel almost like part of the furniture already. I'm happy to report that, when I mentioned having registered for this forum and mentioned the word "khukuris", the 'long-suffering' just rolled her eyes and asked how much I'd spent. Maybe I shall be able to buy myself a khuk from HI after all. Woo hoo!............I mean........it'll be ever so useful, dear. That was close.

I'll certainly raise a glass to all of you who have fond memories of the UK (and those who don't), although I never could get the hang of drinking beer - not even the room temparature stuff that we get in pubs here. I do have a very good single malt that I'll pour a glass of later, if that's OK?

Welcome, Derek. Nice of you to join us.

I'm sure HI has a perfect product for a fire fighter's kit. ;) "Never can be too safe around the house, dear..."

John
