Happy New Year to all my fellow forumites. It has been some time since I have posted a new knife but this one has to be seen. A very good friend of mine just took delivery of this fine piece created by Jon Christensen MS. We do not see enough of Jon's work posted but he is a superb maker. The pattern in his blade is the second of his "Tree Themed" pieces. Details as follows

Blade Length - 10"
Overall Length - 15"
Blade Steel - Feathered Leaf Damascus
Handle Steel - Twisted Leaf "Bark" Damascus. This D-Guard is one solid piece all around from guard to pommel
Handle Scales - Fluted Fossil Walrus Ivory
Sheath - Argentium Silver Tip and Throat with Horsehide leather

All engraving was done by Tom Ferry MS utilizing 24kt. yellow gold and platinum. As usual Tom did an outstanding job complimenting both pieces and his engraving is first class all the way.

Enjoy and I wish you all a great 2012!!

Outstanding, although I might call that pattern 'leaf blower damascus':D
that d guard construction is mind blowing and the whole knife has a classical look to it, although in an organic and natural way.
More Christensen knives must be posted in the future!

Beautiful and battle-ready - that is a stout guard indeed! You are the man when it comes to D-guards, Jon - great addition. Both Christensen and Ferry should be proud. What a great way to start the new year!

You're right Jon, we don't see enough of Jon's work.
He's one of those knifemakers who are so talented in so many ways.
Who photographed this piece?

Beautiful, Jon... and Jon. That's an amazing knife and I absolutely love the one-piece d-guard/frame construction.

Outstanding feathered leafs. Jon has always amazed me with his innovative ways of knife making. Yes the single piece D guard must have taken some serious time to do.

Awesome Knife! I like d-guards, and this one is stellar. The platinum really really appeals to me.

Thanks for the pics :)

This is an outstanding piece all around.

I was fortunate enough to see this knife in person at Jon's shop. The pattern in the blade is one of the nicest feather patterns I've ever seen. And then he adds the leaves on top to make it look like a tree. :) The pictures are good but the blade in person is even better.

You guys are right that Jon's work is not seen enough. His fit, finish and creativity are up there with anybody in the business. Tom did a really nice job matching the style and theme of the knife with his engraving too.

Another thing that struck me about this knife: there is some considerable weight to this piece. It's understandable with the solid steel guard/frame handle. But the balance is incredible and right where it needs to be.

Thanks for showing this Jon I had heard stores about this knife so I am thrilled to get to see it. Jon really did a fine job on this knife and Tom's engraving is the icing on the cake

That's awesome! Top notch design, matrials, execution, and the difficulty level is insane. I would have voted for that for bowie of the year.
