Hey Guys,
I have a client who wants a rainbow Chive to give as a gift, but he wants to have it engraved. I imagine that this would work out just fine, with the lettering being the color of the stainless steel beneath the rainbow coating.

Just wanted to see if anybody here has ever seen an engraved rainbow Kershaw before I tell him it'll work. Was wondering if the coating might chip away at the edges of the letters or anything else. Let me know.

I would have PM'd Thomas about this, but he's probably still recovering from a weekend full of late night pit action back in Atlanta.:D

Cheers,
Jonny

I would bet it would work as long as they were using professional equipment. You might want to recommend that he take it to a Things Remembered or other store like that. They would know for sure if it would work.

hey Jonny., if you get a chance to snap a pic of the rainbow chive after it's been engraved I'd sure appreciate it if you could post it on here. I've got a wedding coming up and was thinking of giving my groomsmen engraved Kershaw as gifts so I'm kinda curious how this would look on a rainbow knife. Thanks man!

No problem,
The customer is a close friend and I'm sure he'll let me get some pics after he takes it to the engraver. I'll get 'em posted as soon as I can.

cheers,

Ionbond would know for sure, but the way that finish is applied, it is difficult to imagine that it could chip.

Be careful of who you take it to. I got my dad one of those Buck 110s with the aluminum handles that were engraved with a pattern like a leather holster and had his name engraved on it by Things Remembered. The engraving worked and looked nice but the person who clamped it into the engraving machine got a little excited I guess and mared/scratched up the aluminum. I'm sure the Chive is tougher than that but just be careful who's doing it.

If the knife is going to be used regularly, keep in mind that the engraved portion will be exposed steel and thus, more susceptible to rust.

There would be one person here that would know.
Ionbond.

He's got the know on Oilslick.
