This a take down hunter I built for the Private Show I just hosted. The engraving was done by Steve Dunn. It has damascus, stainless, and sterling fittings. The spine and butt cap were all engraved. I made a Damascus screw driver to take the knife apart. The handle on both are fossil mammoth ivory. Great sheath by Paul Long. Great pic Coop. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Josh, as you know I loved the Searles Bowie but this one I'm not so sure about. I like the blade very much but as I progress back to the handle, the second area of the collar loses me. I like the dark damascus next to the guard but the overall width and the brighter color I find, to my taste, does not fit well together in the overall design.

The last item I'd have anything to speak of would be the color of the mammoth which because it is so light, the eye goes to it first when looking at the image and thus because of the light handle, the dark damascus blade, the eye tends to bounce between the two without a nice smooth transition between them. Now, obviously, this might not be the case when seeing the knife in person which I was unable to do.

Now back to that Searles -- what a wonderful knife and I'm sure whomever wins the drawing for that will be head over heals. I think it is the nicest Searles I have ever seen. I hope Coop got some nice images of it for posting. Having the opportunity to handle it at Blade was a most enjoyable experience.

I'm sure the knife and sheath are great - I'll look them over good and proper once I get done drooling over the damascus screw driver with mammoth ivory grip!

Seriously, that is an absolutely first class package in every respect. The new owner must be tickled pink.

Hey guys thanks for the compliments. Roger I can make you a screw driver that will come with a knife. :) Murray, thanks for your opinions. I like it when someone steps up and offers a constructive well thought out opinion. Though I may not agree entirely I am willing to listen. Difference in opinion breeds varying styles.

Thanks for the compliments on the Searles. I'll have some pics up soon of that.

I get the feeling I've seen that knife some where before, and I think I liked it then too. Nice job, Josh.

Paul

Well Josh, I will have to say that the conditions for which Murray has concerns are the very same conditions that draw me to the knife. I love it.

In collecting classic cars, they are most often right, or not right. However with custom knives it varies with the individual's eye.
And that makes it all the more interesting to me.

Outstanding package. :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Can't wait for my "take down" gentleman's fighter. And I would like a screwdriver please. ;) :)

I really find that the contrast of the handle really pulls me in. I think it goes nicely with the blade. Well done.

A standing O in my corner.

Take-downs and little damascus/mammoth drivers will now be the rage. Heck, I might even get the driver even though I can't afford the knife.

The next refinement is a felt-lined leather case with a lock (you listening Paul) elegantly displaying the knife, driver, engraved metal container with oil, cleaning patches, a stone, and an engraved plate on the inside of the lid stating the vitae of the knife similar to British gun cases for high grade shotguns.

Well Josh,
You know, that I know, that you know, I happen to totally dig the look.
The heavy contrast between the damascus and the deep relief crackle in this cream ivory handle is very very cool.
The engraving, tool, and sheath complete the package flawlessly. It would be neat to have a pocket somewhere on the sheath for the tool. - Maybe I can talk Paul into another some time ? You know the other night I had a few beers and all I can say is ....
it’s a good thing you lettered the pieces otherwise I would have never been able to get it back together.....

Damm Blake, did you get every piece there? :D ;)

Josh, this was my favorite knife that you had at the private show (except for the Searles inspired bowie, which wasn't for sale). The workmanship was outstanding. The look and feel were every bit as good as the workmanship, and the materials were beautiful.

Beautiful knife, Josh, exciting to see that you went all the way with
the whole package.....

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Take downs really make it interesting. I like gadgets and that damascus screw driver is really cool. Awesome package
