this subhilt fighter was made in 1985 it is 12" oal with a 7-1/4" damascus blade with black micarta handles i just recently aquired it through a friend. is there still interest in Jot Singh Khalsa's work. i have never seen a subhilt of his before only fancy folder. anyone have any info or comments on this knife. does he make his own damascus?

Wow, thats awesome....love it. Never saw a Subhilt by Jot, he seems to mostly do high end art folders. In any case, from what I have seen his work runs with the best of them.

Yes, his work certainly does run with best of them. This one is stunning. I love that pattern welded steel. To me, that is one of the nicest sub hilts I have seen.

There is definitely still an interest in Jot Singh Khalsa knives.

That's an amazing knife. Good score--hang onto it!

I have seen pics of Jot's fixed blade works, mostly from the eighties, which are incredible. He did a sword as a gift to a high priest(?) as a commission for the members of his Sikhe(sp?)religion. Anyway, it was about as impressive a sword and sheath as you could ever imagine, and the value was WELL into six figures...!!!! Wish I could bring it up. Ask him about it if you ever have the chance.

Thanks for the post!

Coop (who owns one of Jot's folders, too!)

thanks for the posts, does anyone know what the approximate value of this knife would be? like i said i have never seen a subhilt only fancy folders that are way too fancy and out of my budget for me :o

That's downright beautiful. Jot's work is always stunning. I have not seen a piece yet that I didn't want.

how does one put a price on such a piece? is availability a factor? what about the age? because this was made 17 years ago is it more in demand? any info would be appreciated. thanks

does he make his own damascus?
krangle1-

Jot Singh Khalsa does forge his own Damascus however I don't know if this particular piece of Damascus was forged by him or not.

He also uses other parties Damascus on some of his work.

His work is always outstanding and unique- often spiritual.

Looks like a keeper to me- hold on to it.

blade 747 thanks for the e-mail address.
how does one figure a value or trade value on a knife like this?

just got an e-mail from mr. khalsa. here's what he said.

"Dear sir
Have seen the posts and picture on Blade forums. I'd say that if I received an order to make a knife like this today I'd charge $1000. Would have to see it in person to know if it were my damascus-just can't tell from the photo. I'd hold on to it-I've just begun to get noticed. Good luck. Jot Singh Khalsa"

would i still add a premium for being 17 years old if i were to trade it?
