I now have many Case pocketknives because they are my preferred company. All were bought for a specific task in mind. These four pocketknives pictured here were bought for the purpose of "everyday carry" and general use. From mail to beef steaks to getting splinters out and anything the day to day can throw at you.
I have had many pocketknives in my life time. It started with Cub Scouts and seeing my father carry a pocketknife everyday. As time went on, my love of pocketknives grew. They're so primal yet refined. Many years ago I decided I needed a "good one" just like dad had. I also wanted it made in America. Thus started my search for a Case.
(In order, from left to right)
1. On a specific vacation to SMKW (first time ever) to find that great pocketknife, I found the Case Wharncliffe Mini Trapper. I liked the Trapper pattern but hated the spey blade aesthetically. When I happened upon this knife, I knew that was it. The size was great and fit in my hand well. It was American made. It was green, my favorite color; emerald green to be specific. It had two good blades I liked. And it even didn't have jigging (smooth bone) which made it "cooler than old guy pocketnives" for this young fella. Remember the older green box they came in? I specifically remember sitting in the truck on the way back to the hotel reading on the box about the "XX" lore. My very first Case pocketknife. Case had hooked me for life. In fact, I loved it so much that I no longer wanted to carry it. I wanted to save it. Which led to needing a new pocketknife.
2. I bought the Case Medium Stockman to try a different pattern. The pocket-worn Bermuda green was great as well. The size was just about the same. It was a great pocketknife. However, I never found a need for that third blade. And for me, I like things with a purpose. So the search continued.
3. I came upon the Case Medium Jack. I loved it as well. I know the Moss Brown collection didn't sell well but I was attracted to it. It even had two blades. One for every task and one to save in case a I needed that extra sharpness. However, the size was just too small so I needed a bigger one.
4. And finally, the perfect pocketknife. I found the Case Texas Jack. It is amazing!!! Two blades (for the same reason). I love the brighter green of the Kentucky Bluegrass. The size is bigger than the Medium Jack and fits in my hand much more securely (amazing was just a quarter inch can do). Even the barnboard jigging is smooth yet grips well. Possibly my favorite jigging now, next to smooth bone. It really is great.
I would say I'd never need to buy another pocketknife in my lifetime because I have found the perfect pocketknife to last a lifetime. But the allure of Case pocketknives will continue forever.
